How many Goldfish can I Keep in my Pond????
Comments (16)I agree, wait a bit. In my little pond I prefer to see a few thriving pretty fish than a mass of babies I can only hope to find homes for.... I started with tons of plants and then had to add a second small 275ga pond, a 150ga stock tank and a 60ga veggie filter cause I couldn't see the fish for all the plants! I now have 2 dwarf lilies, 3 anacharis, and ~ 6 or 7 potted marginals in my 300ga pond. My how they grow! But each spring I am tempted to get more...'til they fill in. 'Course plants are easier to find homes for. Have fun! PS: Provided your aquariums are healthy I don't see that adding rocks or fake plants can hurt, but the beneficial bacteria in an aquarium may not survive in the 'real' world. Temp flucuations, sun, shade, etc. So I don't know if it'll help either. But I've never done it and I've been known to be wrong :0)...See MoreCan I have a Red Eared Slider in my Pond with My Koi?
Comments (9)I am going on 1 month with a turtle in my pond. Let me say this....they can climb vertical rock surfaces. They might even be able to leap and or fly since mine keeps getting out and I don't know how. They do need a pot full of mud to burrow in to in the winter though. Especially if it freezes near you. As for koi...I have a 9 inch koi who currently bullies my red eared slider. I feed the turtle little pellets on a rock that he suns himself on that is partially submerged. He won't eat dry pellets so I have to toss them in the water. The koi will literally push himself on to the rock, 1/3 out of the water and muscle the turtle out of the way to steal a few sticks. Lately the turtle has planted his feet and stood his ground a little better. Its hilarious though I have seen his big clawed turtle feet push against my koi and worried about scratches. As for eating fish....every bite he takes of his pellets he makes crumbs and all my Mosquito fish and platies swirl around him as he eats. I have seen him go out of his way NOT to eat little fish right in front of him. though this doesn't mean he will always do so....See MoreIdeas where to go for rocks for my pond in Charlotte?
Comments (6)The place off of Harris Blvd near 77 might work. I live in Cornelius, so that's a reasonable drive. Thanks for the suggestions. No, I don't have any pics to post yet, though I've taken pictures as I've gone along. They're on various roles of film, so at some point I'll get them scanned and put on to my computer. I'll make it one of my summer projects. The pond is coming along nicely though. Instead of rocks around the border I've put strips of sod that actually dip into the pond a little bit. It makes it appear much more natural. The rocks are needed for the stream and waterfall that I will have coming from my smaller, original pond. I'm hoping to wrap it up this weekend, but we all know how projects seem to last a lot longer than originally anticipated ;-)...See MoreWhere can I get flat rocks near Franklin?
Comments (4)Sometimes I go to construction sites. They often have rocks that would be serviceable. A coworker told me of an article 'Ms Cheap' in the Tennessean had written of a company that had flat pond rocks really cheap. I would give anything to know the name of the company. I need some rocks myself. It may be worth emailing her. I will do that, and if I am able to get the information, I will let you know. Peggy...See Moresleeplessinftwayne
