A few pictures of which some were taken on a hazy morning.

The Potager, the arbor is the one I got for my birthday for my grapevines. So now the potager has fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Lastly from the camping trip. Grandma had to buy Kenzie a cowgirl hat to go with our western theme. The plastic dish is her bug catching dish. She was so funny, she would pick up these big oak leaves and say she needed them for composting.

(((((Eden)))))! I'm so sorry about the damage and you feeling so upset/scared. It's times like this that I wish I lived a skip away from you. I am SO thankful that no one was hurt. A crushed urn and smashed plants(gee and a humongous tree laying over your garden)still are extemely upsetting and I always did admire the sun & moon not to mention your shed(maybe Brad can repair the shed?)! I know you'll find a way to salvage what you can and recreate what you've got~sniff~Earlier today I was viewing garden pics you'd posted and I was ooing and aahing at the results of your hard work. I hope the cleanup shows more things intact than thought. I hope you can get good sleep tonight. In regards to how I had time to post when the kids were little it was pretty easy because I would post at naptime~AJ napped all the way up to age 4 or at least had quiet book reading time. Both boys were very good at independant play so I could take a few moments to post during the day. I also would post at night because Chris was often doing school work. These days we are more on the go in general plus when I'm working the idylls went to the back burner-unfortunately. Poor Chelone-and Rex! I hope your boss is understanding and things go well. ; )I will drink some wine for you-it's the least I can do... I missed an earlier chance to wish you & your helpmeet a happy anniversary~Hope it was fun...did you conserve water like a good girl? lol just kidding. Saucy-I saw the pic of you skiing-you go! If that were me you'd see a pic of the skis over my head and my face would be flopping through the water at high speed: ) I enjoyed seeing the pics of your earlier garden & the present one-I gasped at that later pic-It's beautiful! I also enjoyed seeing your kids-they grew so much! Thanks for showing those pics. I'm really glad you're sticking around here! Oh yeah, it's hot. Hard to get up the energy to crawl out there and start turning compost. As the greens pile up and the insects begin to attack then it's time to put on some browns. Something like sawdust or shredded paper works and the aroma is reduced immediatly. Come fall then flip the whole thing over and let it rot all winter and spring. Of course when you get to the bottom of that pile you'll find some nice stuff to put into the garden to winter over. Come spring, when your dying to get out there, that's the time to spread that compost on the surface of the garden as a mulch and it'll feed the plants all summer.

I should have said I get to look at Irish Eyes over here. Not mine, the hubbies. I'm a brown eyed girl. My Brown Eyed Girl! That's what he sings to me. Love that song! Bunny, you are so much like my best friend (also named Tracy). Silly as ever but smart as a whip. She says the darndest things and just busts us up! One of my favorite quirks of hers is she is constantly mixing metaphors or just makes new words.She will say things like "flustrated". She means flustered, slams it with aggravated, and boom we have a whole new word. But she can outsmart me any day of the week. LOVE THAT GIRL! Wouldn't change her for the world or you either! You should see the words she makes when she has a couple of beers in her. I then serve as interpreter. You are special... I keep thinking of the church lady on Saturday Night Live. Picture her taking over for Mr. Rogers. SCAREY!

Hi Lynn, I miss all y'all, too. This has been the hottest, driest summer I've ever known in my 56 years. I started out this spring buying and planting LOTS of plants to help slow soil errosion on my hillside, then spent every morning watering to keep them alive while I prayed for the well to not go dry! I'm sending up prayers for your DS and his safe return. Our DS was in for the weekend. He is supposed to head to Afganistan in Jan, if not before. We are praying he won't have to go and he is looking forward to it. Haven't bought any dishes. Haven't taken down the last tablescape because I have NOWHERE to put the dishes. We squeezed in 6 days at the beach on a packed calendar. It was the first vacation for us since Alfred's accident in '08. Just the 3 of us for 4 days before DS got bored with us old folks and DD brought the DGSs for a couple of days. Thank Goodness! There is only so much playing in the ocean with a 16 year old boy this old girl can handle before crashing! School starts here next Monday. I hate it! I haven't had enough time with my Boys this summer. I've tried a few new recipes, but no pictures. Just happy males with huge appetites. Catch ya later, Betty

Exquisite, Michelle, the gardens, the cowgirl, and those clouds behind the corn silo (?). The potager has really grown into the paths, and the new arbor is perfect.

Ooo La La! I love all your pictures! The larkspur is beautiful with the coneflowers and I agree with Marian, I want your garden gate.

I love your new trellis! I can also see the from the potager! I would like to see more pictures, too.

Your patio plantings are nice, too. I always like seeing what others are doing...sparks the imagination!

Lovely, every one! I like the larkspur and purple coneflower combo, and I have just the place to do that. Lol, I'll give you a photo credit next season ;)
The sky picture is gorgeous. I don't think I'd make it living in the city, because I love looking at the wide open sky.
That Kenzie has the most precious little face, and I love that she's got a bug box and is collecting compostables. I'll look forward to chatting with her on the Idylls in the future. I'm pretty sure she's already "one of us".

What Hydrangea is in your butterfly garden? I've been looking for something with an open bloom and yours is stunning.

Everything looks so nice Michelle. I especially like that first shot with the garden gate. Did I tell you I finally found one but mine is even more 'rustic' than yours, lol. Your gardens are really maturing and coming into their own this year more that ever.

Kenzie looks so much like you in that photo. She does have the heart of a true gardener I believe. Such a beautiful little girl!

I'd love to see more pictures too. Your gardens are so inspiring! Thanks.

Wonderful, wonderful!!! Thanks so much for posting these. I just love each and every picture. That gate with the larkspur and Echinacea is fantastic and that pottager is beautiful. I really love the container with that trailing begonia. Do you know the variety? I can't get over how grown up Kenzie is getting. Time is flying by.

Thanks again for sharing these. I'll come back for inspiration.

Thanks for the nice comments. I really should take pictures of my other 3 gates. 2 are real antiques and one is the same style as this one but newer.

Martie, the hydrangea is a PeeGee.

Deanne, the begonia is actually in the front pot and is upright. Variety is unknown as I have had it quite a few years and taken many cuttings.

Eden, I would love to see a picture of your gate.

Here's mine Michelle. Not a great picture but if you look closely you can see a chicken wire repair job in the center that someone's done along the way.

I used to want one of these gates and the old looped top fencing around my first garden! I found this neat website when I was trying to google....

You really get some neat sky shots too.
How about a closer view of the new grape arbor?
I want that potager, LOL. Gardening on a hill here certainly has its drawbacks. Not enough flat area to work with. Norma

Michelle...this is a gorgeous group of photos! The Princess is looking very pretty. She is so cute! I agree that she seems to be taking to all things garden very well. Not all kids do, you know.

I love your garden combinations. The first photo with Larkspur and Echinacea plus isn't that a Scabiosa mixed in? Very pretty combo. Large Scabiosa, do they winter over for you? Great shot of the sky. I do love cloud photos.

The only thing better would be a tour in person. You have a lovely garden. :-)

Michelle, I always enjoy pictures of your garden, especially the long views. Do you winter over the Euphorbia cotinifolia? I've have the hardest time finding them around here the past couple of years-no luck this year at all.

Love the gates. A couple of years ago I hauled an old iron bed frame out of someone's trash and it's been rusting behind the garage ever since. Maybe it's high time I got a little creative.

I forgot to answer your question Sue about the Euphorbia cotinifolia. I have overwintered this one 2 years. I haven't had good luck with take cuttings or finding it locally.
