I really like the idea of everyone sharing the quote of the day here. I've really enjoyed it. I thought maybe it would also be nice to share a weekly fun thread to jumpstart the weekend? Perhaps we all run into funny or quirky things over the week that would be fun to share on Fridays?

I ran across an article in one of the local papers this week that ceratinly made me laugh. Living in a resort town, there is no shortage on local free papers. There is one paper that tends to relay the trouble some vacationers get themselves into in a very colorful way. People tend to be a tad less guarded and not always behave as themselves on vacation.

(I'm hoping this isn't too risque for some here but I thought if they printed it in the local paper, it would be okay for here. I apologize in advance if it does. I reasoned it was too funny and rare not to share with you all!)

Man gets last laugh over inflatable p3nis.

An overly ambitious DE man who was arrested when he stood along Coastal Highway and welcomed visitors to the resort by wagging a 6ft inflatable p3nis at passing traffic, which aroused the attention of several females in the area, had his case dismissed in court this week.

On July 2, at approximately 8:40pm, OCPD Pfc. allen hawk was on uniformed patrol near 40th street when he spotted a man standing on the sidewalk with a 6ft inflatable p3nis between his legs. According to court documents, he continued to move with the inflatable p3nis, which included testicles, as he gestured motorists in the area.

"I stopped and began to observe the individual from across Coastal Highway. I observed the male to position the inflatable p3nis with testicles between his legs to simulate that the inflatable p3nis was his own genitalia", the officer's statement reads.

As the man began swinging his sustitute manhood around, motorists stared in his direction and vehicles were sounding their horns, which only encouraged him to continue. While the officer was watching the man from afar, a group of females crossing the street was quickly drawn to the 6ft inflatable p3nis. According to court documents, the women were so intrigued by the unusual sighting that they took pictures with the man and autographed his heightened attribute. At that time police gained control of the situation and the man was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.

I must of not been in the right place at the right time that day.

I'm shaking my head, clucking my tongue and laughing. Such a "boy" thing. Boys can be such silly creatures. So proud of their, um, toys. For a second I was basking in the thought that my husband is "way too mature" for that sort of nonsense... then I remembered the {{gwi:194038}}. (No worries: link contains no genitalia nor facsimiles thereof... just simulated poor reading comprehension and potty humor.)

Ya know if cell phones and lipstick are dangerous and distracting to drivers, I imagine giant inflatable wangs are even moreso. I say ban 'em!

At least it was an artificial member. Several years ago, on my way home from town in the very wee hours of the morning.....a very chilly night I might add...I spied out of the corner of my eye a man running along side of the road in a pasturefield who was wearing only his birthday suit. He stopped and waved a salute, so to speak, as the headlights caught him from my car.

I am a nurse, so have seen more flagpoles than the average person, and take those things in stride, but figured if a little old lady saw it on this curvy road, there might be a fatality in due course. I calls the sheriff's office and described what was going on, and honestly I think they thought I was making an obscene phone call.

Later that week, I was telling a friend about it who lived down the road. She told me she was also greeted with the same salute, but thought she was seeing things. rofl. Nope, says I, not much there to see. She was too embarrassed to call the authorities.

Stockergal, I don't get it either. Do people think they all are superheroes and can walk (or drive) on top of the water? It makes me crazy. Tim and his staff had to deal with people trying to drive through a flooded airport terminal road that was closed down and barricaded for 4 hours last night, and that was after other people already were stranded in the deep water in their vehicles. The same kind of stuff went on in our county last night and again tonight. I'd never drive into deep water but people seem to think it is okay to give it a try. Everyone thinks the rules apply to someone else, not them. We are living in a parallel universe. While I was reading about your cattle and the fence, firefighters from our VFD were out working an accident in which a vehicle crashed through a pasture fence....and in an odd twist, the pasture belonged to a gentleman who's on our fire board. I noticed that they were trying to contact him to get him to come out and confirm if there were cattle in that pasture because they were going to leave if there was any chance there might be cattle in there and that the fence needed to be fixed before the cops and firefighters left the scene. All of this was occurring in torrential rainfall and flooding. Hazel, It is hard on the animals. I've been trying to get the dogs and cats outside for a bit when it isn't raining, but they are tired of wet paws and just sit on the porch and look at me, as if they're saying "I don't want to walk out there and get my feet wet." The two young dogs, roughly 8 months old, are crate-trained and their crate is like a security blanket. When the thunder and lightning are getting to them, they go get into one dog crate together and cuddle up with their blanket. The older dogs are half-deaf so the weather doesn't bother them noise-wise, but I think they're getting tired of the mud too. I know I am. The corn stood up on its own and looked great this morning. Then, along came tonight's massive rainfall and rowdy winds and I have no idea if the corn will be standing upright or lying on its side when I look at it tomorrow morning. For all I know, it may be floating down the Red River, with assorted vehicles, boats and houses by this time. We have had huge rainfall and the Red River is flooding and expected to crest tomorrow afternoon here at the bridge between Love County, OK and Cooke County, TX. I suspect tomorrow's crest is just the beginning. Before long, I bet Lake Texoma will be flooding. We've lived here long enough to know what this sort of prolonged rainy spell results in, and it isn't pretty. With the chickens, I can imagine the smell especially! Chickens probably get stressed. We have a Polish crested hen that paces and hollers if you are slow to come let them out to free-range every morning. Our hens are good about putting themselves under the deck or back into their coop if it starts raining, but we are keeping the chicks, ranging in age from 3 days to 5 weeks, inside the coop until the rain stops falling for hours every day. The rain keeps coming in waves and I don't think we're done yet. It rained so hard tonight that I imagine there's going to be 2 or 3" more in the rain gauge tomorrow morning. I hope I have a garden left, and I hope that our gravel driveway didn't wash away. The rain fell tremendously hard. I keep telling myself rain is good and we usually don't get enough of it, but I am so over this rain that it isn't even funny. Every square inch of our place is either mud or water...or muddy water. The plants are at their limit in terms of how much they'll tolerate and I feel like I am there too. Unfortunately, there's a whole lot more rain coming. Without even knowing how much rain fell this evening, I know we've already had more rain than our average May rainfall and we're only one week into the month. Today in the garden I could smell that sour, mucky smell of waterlogged soil that has been too wet for too long. I'm hoping it is just the pathways, but fear it is all of the garden. Even the raised beds are far too wet. Our rainfall for the next 7 days is expected to be as heavy as it was for the past 7 days. It is amazing, but in a bad way. Lisa, If we got as much rain tonight as I think we did, then we'll be at 7 or 8" for the week, which is so ridiculous considering we came into May totally waterlogged to begin with. Carol, We had the most incredible lightning. I hope these storms have calmed down before they get to your place. They were so incredibly loud and the constant lightning was like a strobe light that wouldn't quit. I just dread Saturday. If Friday's storms didn't somehow do something to lower the severe weather risk, then it is likely to be a horrible day and we may have a major tornado outbreak. It is like the weather is determined to hunt down our gardens and find a way to damage or kill every living plant. After we get through Saturday, then there's Sunday's severe weather. I'm so ready for a break---even for just one sunny, beautiful day, even though the humidity and heat index probably will not be pleasant if we get that sunny day.

We've used AAA to charge dead batteries. I didn't realize they sold them too. I usually just drive straight to a place that sells batteries and get a new one once I get the battery charged. It sounds like it was a good day. Maybe the dead battery wasn't such a bad thing, it saved you from replacing it on a cold day.

My 5th grade teacher made us square dance for gym class (actually it was kinda fun). If you line dance, you can see some similarities -- defined patterns at defined times. But square dancing requires more people (usually at least 8), while you can line dance by yourself (covid quarantine!)

Makes you wonder what kind of guy he was when he wasn't directing traffic.

A good many years ago, a guy was arrested for walking around downtown buck nekkid. The report about his trial stated that he was acquitted of the charge of carrying a concealed weapon. I still wonder about that one.

Not in the same vein, nor is it an event....but there was an article within the last few days about this guy that really, really hated picking up after his dog. Phew!!!

So he figured that he wasn't the only one that hated cleaning up his back yard. He hired some college students to work after classes and on weekends doing this type of lawn service. Some really "cleaned"up making $30,000 in a year (I frankly think that's exagerated)

Suzy, I had a guy park next to me and pop out with his LITTLE member shining. I laughed so much, he jumped back in his van and left. I don't think he was expecting a re-action
like mine.

agnespuffin - I suspect $30K was a modest estimate; there is such a demand for the service in this area that I counted 4 different doody-pickup companies in a recent weekly paper. Last year, a local teenager mentioned to me that he averaged 2K weekly just cleaning up doody from neighboring folks' yards on the weekend.

Purrsonally, yard doody is one reason I prefer to share residence with a feline. See link for another reason.

It always amazes me that men are just not modest creatures. Yesterday, I was issuing new uniforms to deploying soldiers as part of their deployment process. We tell them all they must come in PT uniform (shorts & t-shirt) so they can try on the uniforms to ensure a proper fit. Inevitably, some show up in uniform and we have to tell them to go change and come back.

Well, yesterday I had a Colonel who didn't want to go change into his shorts and t-shirt, his schedule was too tight and he didn't have time. Most times, officers of his rank really get snarky about it, but he was very happy-go-lucky and decided that if we wanted to ensure he had a proper fit, then by golly he was going to accommodate us! He proceeds to strip right on down to his skivvies and t-shirt! At first I thought I was seeing things, surely he wasn't parading around in his underwear when I was present?! So, I asked the guys why the Colonel didn't have his t-shirt tucked into his shorts, as is required by regulation. They said "Maryanne...look at what he's wearing!" That's when I realized he was in his underwear!

I thought it best I leave the room at that point but he was between me and the door. Being the very cool person I am, I casually and nonchalantly started to walk towards the door, head down so as not to make eye contact. About that time, one of the other officers he was with decides to let loose a cat call whistle and I look up to find myself about 3 ft away from the Colonel. I avert my eyes down and realize he's not wearing socks and shoes...he really stripped down! He stops me "Hey, Maryanne, did you hear that? I think someone whistled at me! They can't do that and get away with it, can they?" I just looked him square in the eye and said "Sir, all I heard were a bunch of birds singing. But, if they were whistling, I'm sure they were only admiring your beautiful bare feet, which, by the way, is in violation of the health code." He just laughed, gave me a wink, and proceeded through the line.

Nope, men have no shame sometimes.
