Comments (9)I don't think it is a Sarassa. Usually they don't have the piebald markings your fish has. I have several like yours that are off-spring of long finned comets and a hybrid koi/comet with those markings. Often these are sterile and can be found in tanks of culls, usually in late winter. It is hard to be sure you have the right markings because the markings can change as the fish grow. The pet store owner gave the koi/comet to me for a dollar even though it was 5 inches long. He thought it would be sterile and didn't want it in the tanks. I liked the markings and long tail and didn't really care if I didn't get babies. Obviously he was wrong and I have piebald fishies from three different hatchings now. Not all of them have the long tails. Sandy...See MoreGoldfish questions
Comments (2)Hi GF like most of the carp family are egg scatterers the eggs are adhesive and stick to plants.. spawning occurs over a large area . Swordtails on the other hand produce live young as fertilization occurs internally. Both species provide no parental care so they're not limited to a particular area. Wouldn't worry about repottiing as even if there are eggs in the pot they're also in other loctaions. Both will produce a LOT more offspring than a pond can handle lol gary...See MoreGoldfish Question
Comments (6)"I talked it over with my DH, and to my surprise, he told me that he is already attached to the little guys, and wants to build a pond for them!" That is so cool. What good luck for the survivors! A couple of things you will want to be aware of before you build the pond. A pond will attract raccoons and other animals that like to eat fish. Herons are aggressive fishing machines. Unchecked, they can wipe out a pond of Koi in a couple of hours. Also consider how you are going to keep the fish warm in the winter. Some folks bring them inside for the winter. Best of luck with your new pets and please post back to let us know how the pond works out! Comments (7)I used to breed Goldfish in 3 ponds varying from 800 up to 5000 gallons, and what i found was that you'd have some absolutely HUGE fry (which i have to say i suspect was from eating anything that would fit in their mouths - including siblings! Ive witnessed it in the much smaller newly hatched phase, so i suspect it must also occur in the juvenile stage too) and some really stunted ones (that usually never coloured up and stayed the dunn olive colour), so it may be that you simply have siblings there - one a throwback to the much smaller wild type ancestry, and 2 greedy guts who polished off the rest of the brood!!...See Moreannedickinson
