Name That Plant!

Please help identify this bamboo-like plant

Small sparse bush, approx. 3-4' tall, purple flowers bloom in late May/early June, brown stem, leaves similar to bamboo leaves but have slightly jagged edges. It looks like a Japanese brush drawing but it's not bamboo, despite the close similarity to the overall look. I was told it might be a New Guinea Impatient, but it's not. Went to three nurseries in West Los Angeles that could not identify it except to tell me it's not an Impatient. Can anyone help identify this plant?

R. brittoniana, link shows 'Purple Showers' however there are
multiple varieties including pink and white forms.

Dear Vertivert Thank you so much, I couldn't read my own handwriting: I got the Ecklonii part right, but none of the searches had Anstea. Anyway this is exactly what it is, Aristea, & it will be lovely with my blue-eyed grass which they say is a relative. Only this will have to be kept damp if we have a bad summer. Hey JauntyJohn, I'm certain it's not ventricosa because of it's large leaves. I'm 99 percent certain it's wamin, but it could be Eutuldoides 'swollen internode'. I only think that because it's possible, but either way, you have a pretty bamboo, and the mother canes are still green (sign of good health).
