How much counter space...

... do you actually use for most of your meal prep and cooking? Not the stovetop, but whatever other space is used for everything else.

I'm looking for real-life answers, not what the experts recommend.

I noticed the other day that while my kitchen is very well designed and has over 20 running feet of countertop (even a special section for baked goods prep), in daily use, 98% of my meal prep takes place on the counter between the sink and the stove -- less than 3 feet. I even actually move the bowls, etc *from* the baking section *to* that space. Only when someone else is actively cooking with me, will I use another section.

Is this a weirdy thing, or do you find yourself in real life using far less space than the "experts" recommend?
