I have Ken Druse's 'Making More Plants', but cress isn't in there. I'd love to hear if your book has any info about it. Grocery store gardening is great fun!I grew some ginger a couple of years ago - I had a pretty big clump of it in the fall. I've done sweet potatoes, lemon grass, and garlic (and inadvertently, pineapple tops in the compost!). I had several grapefruit trees grown from seed (not quite grocery store gardening, as the original grapefruit cane from my aunt's tree), but I got tired of the constant scale battle, so I turfed them. I have a packet of "Common Evening Primrose" I was going to plant in a bare area that has high red clay content and was looking for how to plant it in the seed form but now after reading these I might bury it in a time capsule somewhere under ground. But my packet says "Oenothera lamarckiana" and I've not seen that scientific name in any of these threads. Mine came from Victory Seeds which is pretty reliable source for me. Would it be ok for a remote area on a farm where nothing but scrub pines grow to cover up red clay bank? Heck, I was going to plant some in a flower garden at the house.

Cat....I think I stick to tried and true entirely too much. I think I should be trying to find something a little different to grow like you and Bill. I've never heard of guinea hen flowers. I do like toad lilies but I tried one and it didn't make it through my winter. I hope you will post photos later. Bill...I never saw a slug in my yard until last year. We had a lot of rain that wouldn't let up and they started showing up. Where do they come from, out of nowhere? [g] You remind me of me... when I can't sleep in the summer, I will get up and go out in my pjs with the flashlight and a paper cup and look for earwigs, which I hate! They seem to love me for some reason. Just the same I enjoy being out there at that hour. You get to see all the night creatures and some of the fragrant plants make the trip worth it. And if there is a moon out, a warm breeze and it's very quiet, it's almost magical! And you can't see all your mistakes at night. [g]

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Doggie"!!He wasn't around long I think Spike banned him over something...I just remember when his wife came in and posted that he had passed away suddenly...He wrote the most incredible poem...I'll share it with ya...
