It is in a concrete block and has a concrete block with herbs on each side... Plus sage and pine needle pile behind it... I thought I had the flower bud in picture....... Raspberry plants nearby too lots of stuff in the way... is prob why... Now to make tea do I need to dry them first ? buds not open yet but look light lilac colored... Thanks yall Jean

It's either oregano or marjoram. Kind of hard to tell exactly from the photo -- they are extremely closely related and look a lot alike, and even taste very similar. Kind of leaning towards marjoram. Old-fashioned herb called Santolina chamaecyparissus, aka Lavender Cotton. It will sport yellow button-like flowers in a few months. âÂÂ

the flowers were all gone, funny before the seed heads morphed into the globes, they looked like marigold seedpods and the seeds, I swore it was a marigold relative. Ive been going thru herb books from the library and my shelves and havent quite matched it up yet. Ive got Centranthus ruber growing in the yard now and the leaves on the plant I snagged from were much smaller. If the plant smells like the capsules from the healthfood store, it definitely was NOT valerian tho. that stuff is NASTY smelling, works like a charm as long as you dont sniff it! hee! Id say the smell was on the sweetish side, I definitely recognized it, but cant put a name on it. I s'pose I should get some of that in a pot of soil and see what it turns into.
