Also i live in georgia, where the temperatures have been reaching the high 90s, although the indoor temperatures are in the 80s. i heard these plants bloom in the winter but mine has flowers now. Im not sure, but it looks like a new flower might come along.

Im also interested in nowing how to keep it humid without a hunidifier or tray. is spraying or misting it ok? i have my plant facing a west side window with the blinds closed. i might be adding curtains later so maybe that will help reduce sun later. I also turn on my fan to keep it ventilated.

Should i change the mix or wait until it finishes blooming? I heard moss should me kept in there to keep it moist. Is that necessary?

I think you are going to need a tray for humidity or some size container. Your orchid looks healthy and the roots look good. It is a phalaenopsis. Orchids need indirect light and direct light will result in sunburn.

I think you would need to be careful with a western-facing window as it could be too much for your phalaenopsis. Perhaps you could try a table close to the window. It will need indirect light from outside. If you see a yellow spot on your plant that is sunburn.

This concerns me a little because I'm thinking you don't have your Phal close enough to the window. I saw the picture of it on a table but that's not close enough to the light.You could sit it on an accent table right next to the window and it would be much happier.Remember the plant NEEDS that light to eat. It won't use the water and food properly without it. Next good thing- The pot it came in is clear plastic. That way you can see whats going on in the pot. You can see if it needs water or if it's still wet from the last time you watered it.Very Important!!! Let that moss get dry and crunchy before you water it again. Although I can't tell, it kinda looks like it has bark in the bottom and moss on top??

Thanks for the help! Ive opened up the blinds to allow more light in so i wont have to move the orchid but if its still not enough light ill be glad to move it. Also i added a tray with humid pebbles under the plant to see if that will help a tad. here are some pictures. sorry for the horrible quality.

You can't grow any plant in that light! Move it to the window. Too far away...

It needs to be next to the window if not in it. You are trying to keep the leaves the same color they are now. If you see a yellow spot, too much sun and it would appear quickly. Try it right next to the window and see how it does. You can alway move it on the sill.

Also, don't let that water in the humidity-tray reach the bottom of the pot, too wet will cause root-rot, it wants to be sitting above the water-line....sally
