Diana- I have one. What would you like to trade? I like intermediate growers, do well with ctms, paphs, and stans. But I have a lot of them, so tempt me. My B. nodosa is cork mounted in sphag and has at least 10 leaves, prev bloomed. No reed stem plants, phals, or tiny seedlings, please. Carolyn

The sixty four dollar question is when to put these on to a mount. Do you do it straight away and try and keep the mount(s) in optimum conditions, or do you put the babies in a compot for a while? I've only got one B. nodosa and it grows well and flowers on a mount and i've always assumed that this is the best way to grow this species.

I have struggled to get enough light for my B. nudosa. When I bought it it was maybe 4" tall, with 4 leaves (vendor said they didn't get any bigger). When mine started blooming it was after Christmas and it has rebloomed every year at that same time (Jan. Feb.) every year with more flowers. It never gets enough light to turn purple, altho' David Sander beside it is mostly purple, and it doesn't bloom (still small)but is growing roots at the moment.. Here it is when I just completed the greenhouse. After a year in the greenhouse. Today, waiting for even more flowers this winter. Just for fun. R. digbyanna (?) grows beside it and blooms in July, no purple. Richard Mueller hybrids nearby and they are blooming on every growth as it matures, much smaller plants.

Hi Robert, Most orchids will not produce much of a scent when they first open, and brassavola is no exception. You need to wait a couple of days before the blossom has matured enough to produce a stronger scent. Orchids follow very different rules than most plants :-) However, the fact that you already noticed a fragrance from it is a very good sign. Once more blossoms open and mature you will notice the scent in all areas of your house starting at 7-8 pm. The scent is incredibly pervasive but never overpowering. As for fragrance quality, I think it is one of the best. It has a spicy floral aroma with medicinal undertones and hints of...bacon! Yes, that does indeed sound strange (even unappealing), but once you experience it you will become addicted. It is unique, delicious and wonderful!
