I know Gandle. It's been weird enough to be spooky. Longest winter, endless cold spring, rain...rain......rain. Then the last two months have been the second driest on record. Got down to forties in July at night some nights, the last two weeks have been mid to high eighties in the days, but can nearly see breath at night. Just not typical summer. My tomatoes have yet to ripen. They're hanging there like large white lumps in suspended animation.

Well, you people can please blow some of that cool weather this way. We've been hot, hot, hot all summer. I'm praying for an early fall, but I don't think there's much likelihood of that happening.

Where on earth do you live? This is been one of the hottest summers on record where we live. We have had the swamp cooler on almost every day this summer. I can only think of a few days that we haven't.

We've had an absolutely lovely August (as long as you forget the first two weeks :) ). This last half of August has been amazingly cool and rainy. I've never seen an August like it. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and the rain!

Calliope: Our summer was like that last year, tons and tons of rain the first half of the summer and then, poof!, dry.

Weird is a good word.

April was, more or less, April. May outdid itself being May, at least in the beginning. Although mid-way, it began to be warm as late June. The calendar flipped to catch up with the weather, but suddenly, June skipped out (almost before it began) and presented us with sweltering July-like weather. The calendar rolled on to July, which (climatically speaking) turned up the heat as in August. Somewhere in there the local meteorologist counted 60 days of over-90° temperatures, 45 of them over 95°.

Now, this is the South, in spite of what the Carolinas and Georgia and Louisiana may claim. We expect mid- and upper- 90-degree days in July and August. We also expect those days to be occasionally interspersed with sweet spells of mid-80's. What we don't expect is for the only interludes to be in the opposite direction --- over 100°. Frankly, I feel little difference between 99° and 101°.

Now, here it is, nearing the end of August... Highs today and tomorrow are expected to be in the 70's. September temperatures.

Somewhere, I think Mother Nature misplaced a month.

Fay brought us some much needed rain.
It's 77 outside now and that is also a plus.

We've had a dry but otherwise normal summer ( hot and humid).

we have been dry almost all of august, but not really hot.
i am not a fan of real cold or real hot weather, so the weather we had this august was fine with me.

Well, I am a lover of summertime, and we have had our share of nice hot days, but I miss my late night sojourns outside under the stars, with the warm breezes and glass of cold tea. I can go sit outside by a fire, with my thermals on and a cuppa hot chocolate. IN AUGUST! Phooey. I went swimming ONE WHOLE TIME this summer. I miss that too. No way would I go take a dip in the lake when the air is colder than the water.

Suzy, you can always come on down here. We have temperatures in the upper 80's & above from about the middle of May until the middle of October. We've got more than enough summertime to share. Most of us down here are looking forward to winter!

Summer? What the heck is that? Usually in the summer, the PNW is dry and in the 70s and 80s. This year it is Rain rain rain. The irrigation system has been used 2-3 times. Mother Nature should be running out of water soon.

I will be happy to say bye-bye to this summer! Solstice came in with thunder and dry lightning, which set California on fire and it burned and burned, and it was hot and dry and smoky all though July. An extremely dry spring had done the preliminary damage by drying up pasture and grass much before it's time.
Because of the fire danger we have not mowed all the pasture weeds, so grass is tall and dry in areas where it should have been mowed.
The pond has become a puddle much before it's time.
Right now we have triple digit temps and a Red Flag warning of extreme fire danger again.
And it is dusty...

We're having rain today--remnants of Fay, I guess. It's the first moisture in over three weeks and is most welcome. I'm one of the cold weather lovers, so even though this summer has not been as bad, i.e., hot, as last year, I still complain a lot and thank God daily for our cool, comfortable, air-conditioned house. DH, poor dear, gets cold too easily--that's IMO--:>)--and is already wearing a long-sleeved shirt. I tell him we're like Jack Sprat and his wife, except it's weather-related, not food.
