psychopsis frustrations....

My psychopsis which lost the tip of it's first spike and later branched and formed a bud, just dropped the bud. :(
I have it in front of a south window and have it under a 55W CFL for supplemental. It is planted in lava rock in a clay pot.
Our AC broke during a heat wave this past weekend and so the house has had some big temp changes , humidity has been ranging from 10-40% due to the heat outside I have kept the windows closed during the day and opened them at night when the temps got to a more comfortable range. There is a fan going in the room to circulate the air.
Do you think this is a result of the temp changes or something else? It does seem determined to bloom so that does not worry me I know it will probably start working on a new bud soon but I am very frustrated with needing to wait yet again. I would like to prevent this from happening again any help would be welcome.
