Lesco for me too, but they've closed the one I used to go to so I'll have to start hunting again. paulinct is right about the program rates. Be sure to follow them closely. I've never had any problems doing so. On another note, some years when I've been able to re-seed early (early to mid Sept...but not lately), and when I think I've got a good enough stand and coverage from the new growth, and usually after the second mowing of the new grass, I'll put out an app of Dim 007 to try to catch the poa that hasn't germinated yet, then do it again in mid-Feb (things get started around here earlier than other parts of the country). I don't always catch most of the poa, but it does help.

If you do not plan to overseed, I would go with the Lesco 0-0-7 with Stonewall (prodiamine). It is even longer lasting than Dimension. with the heavier application rate listed on the back, you can get 6months of coverage. Stock up at a Lesco branch near you...poa annua will require several years of coverage.

Barbara, I have not tried this either. Why not do a small test area before you commit. Does this product have a web site to contact? I use roundup in my islands and if close to a plant dig it. I had an epidemic of Spotted Spurge last Summer. I have plans in place to catch it early walking the garden every other day to eradicate it. In the lawn mow high. Applying winter fert will ensure a heavy thick grass to choke it out. I also see an epidemic of Oxalis beginning this year. The red you need to spray. Yellow I hand pull and scrape beds to kill it when small.. Of course I am sure you know we import this stuff in the potted plants we buy. I always do a through check before planting . It is always there. and removed. Wasn't smart enough in my early years to know that. Now I am paying for it. Good luck. Let us know, if used, how good and safe it is. Dave

Dave, I think they they may be overused and are useful in a limited set of circumstances. A row of conifer screening happens to be one of those uses. Yes, the fabric (and I was only recommending a geotexile type, not a roll of impervious black plastic) will degrade. By the time it degrades completely, the conifers will have grown large enough that their shade will start to cut down on weed germination. In my observation, they undoubtedly increase soil moisture retention and reduce the need for watering. And in their first couple years, they do keep weeds down, which is the most crucial period for reducing weed competition as the plants are getting established. Later on, the few weeds that start growing in the mulch are easy to rake or pull out. I've had some in my landscape now for 5 years, all the plants around it have grown just fine, I've never had to water them in the past 3 droughty summers, and I expect in 5 years it will probably mostly degrade but by then it will be filled in with mature plants and there will be less light for weeds to grow. One size does not fit all and the article you posted has some good points, but I stand by my recommendation. BTW Ken's recommendation to not make a screen of a single plant type is good too.
