Age old question... to cut spike or not to cut spike?

So, I have a large generic pink phal that was purchased from Home Depot. The spike stands about 2-3 feet tall. It stopped flowering about 2 months ago. The tip is brown, so I know it won't bloom from that end again. The rest of the spike is still greenish. I never bothered cutting the spike off or even cutting it shorter to see if it would grow another branch of flowers from the same spike...

so, what if anything should I do now?

a: cut the whole spike off?

b: cut it up to the top node?

c: leave it alone as is? (why would I do this? It won't bud again from the spike right?)

I read somewhere online that these large generic phals don't rebloom from the same spike. true?

TIA!

Debbie
