Japanese knotweed has been ID'd a lot this year.

Hardly anyone goes to the trouble (or risk) of deliberately planting Japanese knotweed :-) Sounds like it could possibly be one of the red forms of Ricinis, castor bean. Easy to grow from seed and a rather popular, fast growing, bold foliaged annual.

Caution: all parts quite toxic.

Castor bean is more likely since I have had that plant before, but the seeds are so distinctive I would have remembered them. Also, my leaves are not at all the kind of maple shape that castor bean has. They are pointed, and in several tiers at the top of the plant. Light green color. They are jaggedy, too, like a Christmas tree shape, a little bit. So frustrating trying to describe it.

Definitely not Japanese knotweed, thank goodness :D.

That's it! I don't see any negatives about it in the searching I did, but it looks like I may have the plants too close together. No idea where I got these seeds.....
