We're baaaack!

Oh my goodness! What a beautiful country Bulgaria is! I can't believe how much we got to see, how many people we got to meet (and eat with, and drink with)! The food is awesome, and I developed a taste for rakia. The first thing we agreed on when we returned to the US is we want to go back again next year. Our trip was too short, and we want to see more!

I'll share pictures and stories later this week. (We took over 500 pics, so I need to severely cull them before I share any.) I'm still a bit jet-lagged and I have to go to work today, so that should be, um, interesting.

Funny thing happened when we got back. Steve was upstairs doing a bit of grooming in the bathroom, and I heard him swear up a blue streak. I rushed to see if he was OK, and then was lost in uncontrollable laughter: He bumped his elbow while trimming his facial hair and simultaneously knocked the comb guide off his beard trimmer and shaved off half his right eyebrow!

He won't allow pictures because he's not ready to laugh about it yet, but I sure am. He's worried about someone noticing while he's giving one of his talks, but I told him that if someone notices, he should just act surprised at the query and say that it's a well-known custom that when a man steps foot on Bulgarian soil for the first time, they ceremonially shave off half his eyebrow... and then act surprised that they didn't know it because it's such "common knowledge."

Hair grows back and laughter makes life so much the sweeter. My cheeks still hurt from all the laughter and sweetness we've experienced in the last week and a half...

I think you and Steve were both fortunate and wise to take advantage of a trip to such a very "foreign" place...especially so in that you had Bulgarian friends to show you around. I've a friend who works/travels for a worldwide charitable organization and he says that visiting in most countries you feel like part of one huge tourist group in museums, etc. even if you're on your own.

Glad you had a safe trip and look forward to hearing/seeing more when you've rested up. Bet you were glad to see the pets...and vice versa. I'm off to Wikipedia to "bone up" on Bulgaria. I'm sure to be astonished at how much I didn't know... josh

Yikes! We're having a blizzard! Makes me glad I don't live where weather like this is a common occurance. Snow, ice, wind, with wind chill 0 degrees out there. No tufa today! Just trying to keep my critters from freezing!! And my pipes. All's good so far! My mom had no power last night due to ice on trees taking out power lines, but she has a gas heater that runs even with no power. That is a nice thing to have. I have a generator if I need power, as long as that doesn't mess up, I'll be good to go! So, Peak, now you're back, why so quiet? Jazz this place up a bit! BB

YAY! Good to see you back, Paul. Hope things are going well for you. I thought about you and your health as I took my first Yoga class last night...all that stretching...argh! But, I must say, I do feel fine this morning. Poor DH. He thought he'd died when the gal came over and next thing I heard was these CRRRCCCKKKK ("What the heck?!"). I'm going back tomorrow morning with my girlfriend and I told Bill, "I am definitely going to start this thing each Monday night as I can feel how much better MY back felt afterward." Hmmmmm, black eye from a hummer. Yeah. Sure. Right. If you're going to get a black eye, I can't think of a better way to get one! It's always a thrill just to see the hummers, and I never understood getting "buzzed" until it happened to me. I got my first buzz last year, and I was buzzed again this morning, by 3 very feisty hummers. I normally don't see much activity in the mornings, so I'm thinking these are migrators, probably duking it out with my regulars. Needless to say, I was late for work ;)

Yep David and dlynn, I'm looking forward to the cooler weather!! Since it's in the valley, the winters are generally pretty mild though this year was a record breaker for snow. The good thing about being retired and not having kids at home.... we can just watch the snow fall and not be worried about work, school etc!! In Louisiana today it will be 101... 102 tomorrow... and the humidity!!! We just got back from VA and while they thought it was hot it felt like spring to us!! Here's a picture of our new land and the homesite with DH Joe pretending to be a house. our back porch and deck will facing this view. Seems like we're out in the middle of nowhere, but we're a 5 minute drive from the center of town. We just got home from 5 days in VA where we brought up a load of "stuff" and put it in a storage pod. The estimate of 25K (!!!!) o move us to VA (not including our barn and outdoor things) got us so shocked that we decided to start combining our visits with bringing up a load of things in the horse trailer. We had the 3 horse section of the living quarters trailer full with things that we won't need even in a rental... extra garden tools, workshop things, outdoor decorations (birdfeeders/houses etc). I'm glad you had a great time. I have to admit that Bulgaria is not anywhere near the top of my "I want to go to..." list, so I'll be looking forward to hearing about it.

Welcome back! Looking forward to reading about your trip and seeing pictures. Like Andie, Bulgaria is not a place on my list of "must visits", but it sounds great.

I LOL'd when I read the eyebrow incident; glad it wasn't an injury--perhaps other than to his pride!

Michelle, I'm glad you are home.
I missed you.
Bulgaria wasn't one of the places Neil and I visited when
we traveled. It would be great to actually have friends
to show you around so you could really experience it first
hand.

Tell Steve I'm sorry about the eyebrow. He could've superglued a fake one on, but I'd just tell everyone the dog ate it. {{gwi:138855}}

But, knowing you, ANY PLACE is a good time.

I've been quite concerned for the past few days.
I heard this echoing-type noise precede Hurricane Fay but not from the southern direction of the hurricane...more coming from the north.
It was a familiar sound but not preceding a hurricane.

Your explanation of your hubby's eyebrow incident explains it all.
I can hear your laughter now as I envision you rolling on the floor.
