They look like Touch-me-nots/Balsam to me. The little
seed pod will pop open if pinched. The seeds will be sent
out at a distance. That is why they are called touch-me-
nots! Not impatiens for sure.

Balsam impatiens is the correct name, they are also known as touch me nots.

they come in many colors. I've had combo's of salmon and white flowers, pink and white flowers. dark pink, lavender, lavender and white.

The garden ornamental you have pictured is Impatiens balsamina, common names Balsam, Balsam impatiens, Touch me not, etc.

The wild ones that grow in the eastern American woods are Impatiens capensis if they have orange flowers, or Impatiens pallida if they have yellow flowers. Common names Touch me not, Jewelweed, etc.

All of them have fat little seedpods that pop open when touched.

The low white/pink/orange bedding plants everybody calls 'Impatiens' that you put in shady spots are Impatiens walleriana hybrids. I don't know if they have 'popping' pods or not, I never looked. I will this summer.

There are lots of other Impatiens species, both wild and cultivated, but I think those are the ones you come across most often.
