Hose end sprayers

Hi. I am new to organic gardening. But have had gardens in the past using synthetic fertilizers. I am learning to first take care of the soil which will take care of the plants. My problem and question is how do you tell if your hose end sprayer is working when using water soluable powders. Any help/answer to this would really be helpful. It just seems that nothing is happening. Someone told me that maybe my water pressure is too low. (I live in the country and am on a community well.

If the hose end sprayer is working the water from the hose siphons the material in the jar out, the jar empties. If that is not happening then the hose end sprayer is not working. Probably the pitot tube in the lid is clogged if the siphoning is not happening.

I'm not aware of any water soluble powders that are organic. What are you spraying?

If you have a split in the inside tube the siphon will not work. Check around where the tube sticks onto the lid.

Sorry I don't know what you mean. Roundup calls for 6oz per gallon... Please check out the instructions at http://www.arbico-organics.com/product/RL-Flo-Master-Wet-Dry-Hose-End-Sprayer/garden-tools-supplies I have not found a way to using these hose end sprayers..I guess I'll use the tank type sprayer..Morph has agreed that the tank type is best... Using hose-end sprayer for 5-1-1?

Has anyone attempted this? I've gotten to where I have plants in large containers of 5-1-1 (I'm also trying gritty mix this year), and when I want to do Foliage Pro feedings, refilling and remixing my 2 gallon watering can 20 times and it's taking forever. Has anyone done this successfully? If so, what is a good brand of sprayer to use? Secondly, how do you properly calibrate it, and get it to release the right amount of solution evenly, and finally, doesn't the GPM flow of the water it's self have anything to do with it? I have pretty high water pressure. Or do you use a restricter in the sprayer to keep it no greater than a certain amount?

Hi, thanks, I just tried it and I'm going to return it. It's a piece of junk. All plastic parts. Leaks like a sieve even after adjusting it as much as I could. Very awkward to keep it in a level position to allow the fertilizer to be in the position to have the tube immersed in it. And the suction that brings the fertilizer into the water flow, just doesn't work. All it did was spray water all over everything. The spray nozzle was useless. The brand is Bonide. So back to using a water can and mixing it by hand. Thanks for your help!

The fertilizer will specify the dilution needed, and the hose-end sprayer can be set to yield that dilution. It comes down to reading the instructions on the fertilizer and the sprayer. Most sprayers come with a dial that you can set to the number of ounces/tablespoons/teaspoons need to be diluted in a gallon of water, or the dilution ratio, like 6:1 versus 10:1.

Have you looked into a new pump for your sprayer? If you are new to this and would like professional advice, there is a contact link on this website.
They helped me in many ways figure out where to start on my first organic/reg. garden patch. It's quite large now and I'm glad I got their opinions.
