If a person planted some other type of (edible fruit) peach tree on the same property as the Bonfire strain, would cross pollination render the edible tree's fruit "inedible", or would it not show up until the next generation (the seed result of a cross pollination)? My contention is that the flesh of the fruit of the edible variety is the result of the genetics that are already in that tree passed on when it was just a seed pit on its parent tree. And that any resulting changes from cross pollination don't show up in the fruit borne by the standing tree, the changes only show up in the fruit of the FUTURE trees that might grow from the seed of the cross pollinated tree. Anybody ever had to debate this or explain this?

Nectarines are simply fuzzless peaches are they not? Thomas Jefferson, an avid horticulturist, is reported to have said that they did not bother grafting peaches at his Monticello plantation because it was not worth the trouble, they came true enough from seed. The "trueness" was probably more true back then prior to the wide crossings made in modern breeding.

Wow! Thanks for the picture. They need the wet climate of Japan and great age to achieve that size; though obviously they are more commonplace there than anywhere else. AJ Jacobsen gives a cultivated record of only 25' in New Zealand, this one looks at least 30' to me assuming the form stays pyramidal off the edge of the frame.

Thanks you guys! I have an Owari Satsuma but the fruit shaped differently than this. This one is round but is kinda flattened on both the ends. The skin is really smooth. I went out and dug around the bottom of the trunks. They were buried under a bunch of leaves and stuff, and I did find a place that was cut or broke off like maybe someone originally cut a tree down. So if these are suckers, the original tree must not have been grafted or it would be a sour orange right? and these are definitely not sour at all. I took some pics of the tree before it got dark tonight. The trees around it have lost their leaves for the winter so it shows up now. It is tall and skinny about 10ft. It was trying to reach for light most of the year, I guess. Normally, the citrus blends in and was hidden in the 'thicket' of green lol. Since the fruit is so good, I plan to cut these other 2 trees down (on the left and right of the green leafed area) that are shading the citrus out. I need help figuring out what to do with the "trunks"..just leave them or thin it to one or two? The whole citrus tree (the green part) you can't see the trnks from here. The bottom where I uncovered the leaves and soil. Side of the bottom..all those trunks come from the base...I think.. Close up of the leaves
