Vicia sativa - common vetch, is what it appeaars to be. My neighbor has some in his lawn, too. Watch it cuz it can be invasive. I have mixed feelings about Vetch - it is also touted to be a host plant for the Eastern Tailed Blue, Gray Hairstreak, and Orange Sulphur. Susan Here is a link that might be useful: Common Vetch

Thanks Anna. I went on Dave's and at first I thought it was not the plant. But the more I looked into the more I am convinced it is. This plant AND the clerodenrum AND the Monkey Ear tree are all bad. The basket plant an monkey ears are on this list: The Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) has urged FloridaÂs nursery and landscape industry to stop production, sale and use of the following plants that are widely recognized to be invasive in natural areas. FNGLA also urges gardeners and consumers to consider alternatives to these plants. Here are the plant species on the "do not sell" list released in 2001by the Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association. The clerodendrm is not on an invasive list as far as I can tell but I have read several reviews that claim it is one of those cleredendrum that will sucker like crazy and take over. Too bad about both the basket plant and the clerodendrum as they are very pretty. But I have learned - I put both the Bridal Dombeya and the Mexican Petunia in my yard and I am having a heck of a time getting rid of them! Thanks, Anita

Thank you both for the replies, this soil is what I would think is of poor quality alongside a hill that was bulldozed to improve a personal driveway facing east, both the newly exposed earth and the fill scraped off the surface used for fill below the driveway grew these plants, I immediately spread some "highway mix" seed to grow on the new surfaces but the dry summer seemed to allow these things to grow best, I believe these blew in and not part of the mix. There are so far no blooms and no bulb but sort of a carrot looking root difficult to pull out which I don't have a picture of.
