OMRI and Synthetic Products

Whenever I see the mention of Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) in this forum, it seems they are well respected. But, there are several synthetic products that OMRI permits with restrictions.

The FAQ entitled "What is the correct definition of Organic Gardening?" says, "ORGANIC GARDENING - the science and art of gardening... without using synthetic commercial fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides."

Is OMRI not a good organic organization or synthetic products are permitted with restrictions?
