black eyed susan annual?

mocknbird

I planted this from some mystery seeds sent to me about 4 years ago. It self-seeded each year and even spread to the cracks in the sidewalk. It is an annual. This year, it is crowding everything else in the garden. The seeds are tiny; almost invisible. It grows to about 4 feet in height and blooms with numerous yellow flowers, very similar to a black-eyed susan. However, the leaves and stems have tiny spines. The attached picture shows its current state in late May, at about 6 inches tall.

Any more info that I can offer?
