Well I am not sure what to tell you. Mini-Verde is an ultra mini dwarf Bermuda grass made just for putting greens, being cut at less than an 1/2-inch, and exhibits very little vertical growth that spreads out quickly.

IMHO it will never get to 1-1/2 inches. It will just go to seed, shade itself out, and eventually thin itself out and decline.

You might want to reconsider getting a reel mower and having a putting green.

Sorry I don't know what else to say. Sounds like you got the wrong type of grass for your application to me.

Autech I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but what you have done so far doesn't make any sense, if I were in your shoes, I'd dig that berweed up yesterday. Then go find out what you need to do to accomplish what ever it is you want to do.

Auteck is an experimenter. Some of us are born with the experimenter gene are we can not help but try every kind of grass there is. I'd really like to know how that buffalo grass is doing or was it blue grama? And yeah, if you're having success with cool season grasses, don't let bermierda within a hundred yards of your place!

My parents have a house in Myrtle Beach. Their neighbor used Mini-Verde for a putting green behind his house. He too was trying to grow it too high (1"). I don't think it ever got that tall. I don't know how you could put on 1" grass anyway.

I told him to get a reel mower (bought a 10 blade push of some sort). He now cuts it at 3/8". It looks much better, but still not like a putting green. I'm thiking you need one of the industrial reel mowers (like golf courses) where the reels almost "float" just above the ground when cutting.

You are on the right track, you really need something above a reel mower for this grass, you need a Putting Green Mower, which is a reel type, a very expensive reel type like $5 to $20K expensive new.

Mini-Verde performs best between 1/8 and 3/16 of an inch, and is extremely high-maintenance requiring multiple vertical mowing and top dressing per year to control thatch, not to mention once a week fertilizing. This stuff is for high-end golf course putting greens and not for home gamers.

I got the sod for free from the local golf course where I work some times. The grass has an incredible color, unlike any other grass I've ever seen. It looks awesome mowed at 1/8 of and inch. I'm also planing to overseed it with A4 Bengrass. You probably think I'm crazy. I love experimenting with turf grasses.

I forgot to mention, the grass around it is Turf-type perennial ryegrass blend by Turfseed. Most of it is dead right now due to the extreme heat and the 1/2" mowing hight.

It's spreading quite nicely... One plug looks like is dying...? I have yet to mow it, and it has been 6 weeks since I planted it. It's barely 1/2 inch tall...

You were mowing your PR at a half inch?!

Yes. A cheap and somewhat eviromentally frindly way of killing a lawn. I wanted to plant these better blend, and I didn't want any of the old PR mixed in there.

I've picked up two bags yesterday, I'm very happy right now. It's proven blend in this area. I just drove up there yesterday to see how the PR was doing, and it's still dark green and a live; but definatelly stressed though. We're under a severe drought at the moment, and I think the temperatures in entire month of August were in the 90's and 100's which is very unsual for the month of August.

A cold front and some much needed rain in on the way!
