Kalenchoe blossfeldiana and Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii'

How sensitive is the hahnii to cold temperatures? I just put them all in the ground from a pot, and it has the potential to get very cold here in the winter overnight.

Sanseviera is a very cold sensitive tropical /subtropical plant. It won't be happy in cold temperatures. It appears to be very sun scorched.

Planting it outside probably not the best idea.

I've always hardened off plants before setting them outside. The white leaves are probably due to temperature changes if you just put them out without acclimatizing them to being outdoors.

If you dig them up and bring them in the Fall, you have to consider creepy crawlies coming in with the plant.

Your Sans do look like they've had a struggle. How long have they been planted outside? The older leaves may have gotten a bit of frostbite, or the plants may be just discarding them in adjustment to the disturbance. If the new leaves are staying the proper color, they are probably happy there.

Sans are definitely sensitive to frost, which will make the leaves mushy as you've described. Those leaves can't heal, if you'd like to remove them by gently tugging them sideways or cutting at soil level.

If you rinse the roots when you dig them back up, no worries about critters. Place in fresh potting mix as you would for a regular repot. But I wouldn't do it in a cold, wet day at the very last minute. Better to do on a warm (not hot) day when the plants are more dry if at all possible, as is a general rule for repotting. The 2 sure ways to kill this nearly un-killable plant are too much water, too cold.

Both plants need well-draining conditions, will not abide soggy, cold roots. Concerned about the soil in the Kalanchoe's pot, and if the pot has a drain hole. Looks happy today though! Were the Sans in the same soil while inside for winter?

Next time you're planting something, especially ornamental, consider clumps instead of rows, although that's just an unsolicited opinion I couldn't keep to myself.

The Kalanchoe pot does have a large hole in the bottom. It used to be my moms, and was sitting in the basement for 10, 15, or 20 years, and its soil was just a hard clump of dead dirt. I decided one day to see if it would grow, and pulled it out, knocked off the dead dirt with a butter knife, and Ive used regular potting mix the past two or three years since, and it has exploded from a tiny single thin stalk thinner than a pencil, to what it is now.

In a storm it was knocked over and a large stalk broke off a year ago or so. I stuck the broken stalk in the ground and pressed the dirt around it, and it rooted and took off in about 2 weeks. So there is one clone somewhere in there.

The Sans where in the same condition, but in a big cluster in the basement, with dead dirt. I put them into a new pot the same time, but just decided to plant them a week ago individually. If the white parts are due to cold, that I think explains it perfectly. I believe there was a low of 41 at some point after planting them.

Im in the DC area, its been the second coldest spring on record here.

Ill have to dig them up in 6 months or so I guess. I wanted them to be more spread out. All 20 of those were crammed into a relatively tiny pot, about a 6 inch wide circular one. After having had one just pop up with almost no rooting, and sticking it into some dirt hoping it would root while being all yellow and looking dead, and having it do so and take off, I decided they needed more room to grow. The picture was one that used to be 3 or 4 yellow leaves.
