Saood Since I didn't plan on having tomato plants in pots, I wasn't ready & used whatever I had on hand. Many of them were 1 gallon pots, few 3 gallons. That is pretty small. But in spite of small pots, they grew well & whatever plants I had, they produced some tomatoes. Plenty to sample them all, and even save seeds for next spring. I only managed to plant in ground about 15. Photos in my previous postings are showing seedlings started without any additional lighting, just in front of south window. So yes, they are leggier than should be. Once they have at least 1 set of 'true' leaves, I pot them up into bigger pots. Seedlings grown in peat pellets I usually pot up into 3 or 4" pots. I burry them as deep as possible, which is most of the main stem. This is when I start adding fertilizer whenever watering. (BTW, if you are looking only at asparagus seedlings, I think they are just about right - maybe just a bit etoliated, since asparagus has very long/tall ferny stalks.) I try to put them outside ASAP to get as much sunlight as possible (make sure you aclimitize them well, even if grown under lights). Sometimes I pot them up second time into larger pots. I try to get deep pots, since tomatoes have large root system. (the attached photo is showing tomatoes potted-up second time, from 4" pot into 6-7" pot that are much deeper). Large distance from light source would slow the growth, I believe they need any light you could possibly supply, short of burning them (as you asked about in another thread - I think it was about CFL's). If you growing only few plants, maybe you could try to nurse the sluggish ones to health. Besides what I mentioned, I can't think of any other reason for them being so slow. I don't have experience growing jalapenos. I would make sure of good air circulation; proper watering; as much light as possible. Don't start fertilizing too early - not so healthy plant can't use fertilizer. To get some really good tips on growing in containers, there are many very experienced members on container forum growing peppers, tomatoes etc. Being fall here, you may not get as fast reply as it would be in season. That is the one thing I have noticed since scouring the net and asking everyone and anyone in the know their opinions on who makes the most well put together laptop. It seems that many folks are extreemely loyal to one particular product or brandname, but one brandname doesn't seem to be conclusive over the other. The Imac sure has its very loyal following, as well as Dell and Toshiba and, another brand rapidly picking up steem is HP, especially their DV6000 and DV9000 lines. I am beginning to conclude that at this point, figure out exactly how much of a laptop you need and can afford, paying particular attention to Size of Hard Drive, How much Memory (RAM), and third, how much graphics card, and lastly and most important, the CPU. I have concluded that the duel core processor is important, as it is essentially two processors stapped together, and the OS uses one for certain functions and the other for certain functions, and most importantly, only one is being used and powered when both are not needed, saving battery power and overall electric consumption. Another rule of thumb, to save money, get the base core duo (1.60GHz, I believe), and skip the upgrade on the CPU and get 2G's of RAM, as your CPU runs out of cache space for storage, it will draw from Ram, and adding RAM is much cheaper than adding a high end CPU. Bottom line, I'm waiting for some hot sales. Another thing to think about is size, and yeah, folks, size does matter... Most of the 17" models that I've tried out in the stores just seem too damn big and heavy, especially if your going to use the thing as a LAP top... it's just too damn big for my lap, and I have a big lap at that... the 12" is just too small, especialy for viewing movies, etc. That's the one thing that turned me off from the DELL XPS 1200... hot looking little machine... just too small. 14-15" seems just right for my taste. It seems to me that all these machines (Toshiba, Dell, HP and many others) are all beginning to become clones of one another. Seems they are are made in China nowadays, and no one has yet to convince me overwhelmingly that one is better than the other...

To add: The drainage had no baring on if it would show up or not. I have some pots that had admittedly horrid draining(because I was growing tomatoes in them and they suck up all the water in less than a day anyway), and a Sarracenia straight up in a constantly sopping wet moss ball of peet, perilite, and sphagnum. The fungus/mold never touches those. Other planters, one of which is made of pallet wood with wide separations between each board, and carbon mesh to hold in the dirt, dries out completely within a couple hours of being watered and I watered it whenever the vining plants in it started to wilt(every 2-3 days) still saw this stuff showing up in the dirt but not on the wood. My various pots are made of wood, terra cota, clay, plastic, carbon mesh, plastic seed starter trays, and green solo cup. I did bleach the pots before I used them, and the ones I emptied and refilled. I did not sterilize the soil, but I used different brands and even got it from different dealers. It didn't seem to matter. The original soil was MiracleGro potting mix and the cactus mix was MiracleGro grow as well. Star-Green perlite. Better Grow Orchid Mix. I think the other potting soil I tried was Jobe's but I don't remember exactly. Also Jiffy Seed Start Mix I store the soil inside my house in a tupper-ware bucket and some of it is even still damp, but nothing inside the bags seems to have this growing on or in it and smells clean. While I can't be entirely sure that it is directly the culprit, because I had frustrating pest problems as well (that I could trace to the environment outside my patio) and my watering regimen being torturous, many of my plants did struggle and die. I eventually wasn't watering until they still were wilted at night. None of my herbs except for a couple of the nearly 2 dozen basil plants I tried to grow would take, even when I wasn't starving them of water. None of the lettuce survived. The tomatoes grew like crazy but the fruit rotted, and many of my flowers either died or constantly had sickly looking leaves. When I'd give up on ones that weren't completely dead I found the stems rotting or weak root growth even when they had been extremely strong as seedlings before I potted them. I'm at the point of thinking it's environmental for my apartment complex and just hoping there's something I can do to keep it out of my garden. Also a bit worried if it could be affecting our health.

I don't think I've ever used Mod Podge but am intrigued. Sounds like it'd be pretty easy for this application, no? I went down yet another rabbit hole today searching for prints or photos to hang above the window. I decided I want to move the deer skull and hang a series of things above the window, to sort of add to the feeling of the room being "collected and cozy". I settled on a series of 12 original wildlife photos found on Ebay, and am eager to see what all is included here as the seller only posted a few examples. Of course I can't hang all 12, but it'll be fun to choose my favorites and frame them up. Here's a few in the series ... and yes, I adore owls.
