Thank You for the sunflowers, they made the past few days better.

Ron has Multiple myeloma, it is a type of Leukemia that can't be put in remission. They expect 6-8 weeks, that nurse did give me a "heads up".

We are living at home day by day.

That is good! Poor baby suffered with it's leg. I hope karma does even more. I shouldn't hope bad things on peole, but maybe they'll reap what they've sown. It'd be even better if they were banned from having any living being on their land. NOTHING.

Mixed news. Joann went to see Ron today, Doctors were not available...she is going to a seminar tomorrow, learning how to cope with patients using walkers and crutches, Ron may be released Saturday, because there is no PT anyway during the long weekend, and Medical(Medicaid California) is not paying for more hospital stays, so there may be outpatient travel involved. No one knows for sure. No doctor, no lab results available. A nurse said: oh, with that problem they usually don't last more than 6 weeks...that's cheerful news, isn't it? At least the weather is going to be more the way it should be - the drive to Willits will be a lot better when it doesn't rain all the time... There was a rainbow just half hour ago, so perhaps this is an omen?

There are many problems. Retail stores have long hired relied on part-time help. Thirty years ago, that worked better. Our local mall hired a lot of high school kids and Airmen's wives. Gas was under a buck a gallon. A Filet-O-Fish and a shake came in under a dollar, too. Many women didn't *have* to work, and worked because they wanted to, and if the job didn't work out, it wasn't a huge deal. Now, if someone is working, it's likely she needs the money. Many retail jobs are seasonal, so people quit when something better comes up. Or they find something in the off-season that isn't seasonal. Or they find that a seasonal job plus collecting unemployment in the off-season is more lucrative than looking for (and traveling to) another job. Gas is near four dollars a gallon, so if you're not scheduled for a full shift, you may feel as if some money is wasted. All this makes it hard to find good help these days. The managers are under the gun to make plan and come in under payroll- so the minimum number of people are scheduled. The problem isn't the the size of the cutting area, it's that there aren't enough people scheduled. Additionally, the number of people who still sew is rather small. Few people will apply for a job in a fabric store knowing nothing about sewing and crafts - and if they get hired, aren't going to be knowledgeable for a while. And to be honest, the work ethic isn't what it used to be, either. The managers are hiring the best people who walk through the door. Who did you contact in the head office? And does McCalls know of Joann's policy? Last time I felt strongly about something, I looked up the name of the president of the corporation, and sent the letter to him, by name. Personnel changes were made in five weeks.

My heart breaks for you.

If I may offer these suggestions, having experienced a similar journey with my little brother, say any and everything you ever wanted to say to each other, bring out photos and relieve your life experiences together, savor every moment.

I read a quote a few weeks ago. "Knowing you're going to die, is it a curse or a privilege?" I am deeply sorry that
Ron finds himself in this place, long before time to be there. I'm so sorry too that his family holds this knowledge and sorrow.

Given there are no options, I hope for Ron might find it a privilege.

acorn, I keep thinking about you and Ron and wonder how you are doing? I recall you writing :"We are living at home day by day." How are you doing with that? Are you Ron's primary care giver? It must be a very stressful situation. And, just because I ask, you don't have to answer.I just want to know.

JoAnn I'm so very sorry that this is happening and will hold you, Ron and Lilo in my thoughts.

When we knew my Father didn't have long we spent some of the most profound times together. We talked about things that he had never talked about, entrusting me with parts of his life he had kept to himself for his whole life. It was a very hard time but now I am grateful we knew and had that time and that he chose to share himself in those ways.
