Today is the day...for kittens

Joann, at work in the feed store, just sent me a message that the kittens are ready to come home today, they are eating on their own and have a supplementary bottle twice a day. It's a bit soon, but there are reasons.

I have the smaller cage, and will get it set up in the guest room for the next few days, I can close the door, if necessary to avoid a rumble, and get them used to the place and to me.

I know that there were others who had wanted the white one, and it's better to have them here, so it's a sure thing.

I'll keep you posted

My heart just melted when I saw their pictures, Lilo. They are fortunate little tykes to come live at Casa Lilo.

They are here - tiny things, not much bigger as Taffy was when I got him. They were exploring their new home, very active and curious.
I offered them a bottle, but they didn't want any, so now they are in the cat carrier on a hot water bottle for the night.
I thought they may need the extra warmth to make up for mama cat and siblings.
It's a good thing they lived in the store, so after closing at 6p.m. until 8 a.m. next morning they didn't get any human attention, but they did have Mom to suck on.
The reason they came home so young is because Mama cat, Blackie, has so little milk, all the kittens were not nourished well and Blackie was just skin and bones. Now she has only four and they get extra feedings.
Taffy's whiskers are somewhat bent out of shape, he'll get over it.

I know this is a very old post, but I have found my way here by googlong the exact same question as the OP. My Persian momma had a litter 10 days ago, aand (surprisingly only) one of my babies has a URI. I have been to the vet (this past Friday), and was prescribed Clavamox (.04cc 2 times/day). In a nutshell, she doesn't seem to be getting better as she is extremely congested more so now than she was on Friday at the vet. I have been syringe feeding her every couple of hours, using saline solution drops that is VERY hard to get into her teeny little nostrils, but after I do that, she starts sneezih, so it seems like some is getting in there! I do have a vaporizer, but my issues are this: 1) My girl has put all her babies under the dresser; 2) I could set up the vaporizer but there's no way it's benefits will get to the babies under the dresser; 3) I could take the one sick baby out and put her somewhere where momma won't get her and take her out, taking her back to under the dresser, HOWEVER, I only have one heating pad for the kittens (and I don't have anything else o could use as a heat source unless I use a box heater?), and all of them still need the heat, so I can't take the sick baby out and not have her on the heating pad, and vice versa with the healthy babies. So, I'm stuck. I will do anything I can to save this baby girl! I read above in another comment about putting the kitten I'm a bathroom with the shower going to get lots of steam, and leave her in there for approx 15 minutes, so is this he best solution for me situation, or is there something else I'm missing that I could do? On Friday, the vet told me she has a 50/50 chance of surviving this due to how young she is, but I am not one to give up, as I will give all my babies a fighting chance to survive, even if that means I get no sleep and cant see straight from lack of sleep. This morning, I actually told my husband, "I am literally watching her die and I don't know what else I can do for her!" She looks and sounds sooo bad right now, as she is so congested and cant even nurse from mom. When I syringe feed her, its like she is starving,and its breaking my heart. She eats well from the syringe, but she is dtill losing weight, even though I feed her as much KMR as she will allow me to feed her. Is there anything else that I can do, from others' previous experiences? This is all new to me, and it's emotionally killing me. Thank you in advance.

The vet did an exam as well as tests on a urine sample. He poops outside the box too, which points more to a behavior issue. We did switch them back to the regular litter. That helped some but didn't solve the problem. Sometimes he pees in the litter box and poops outside of it. Sometimes he does the reverse. The other boys are all neutered. One of the girls is spayed. The youngest girl isn't spayed yet. She's only five months and has just now reached the four lb. weight that our vet wanted her at prior to spaying. I haven't seen any signs of territorial issues. They grew up together even before we brought them home. They play together and groom each other. We actually don't usually see when he does this or we'd redirect him to the box. Thinking back on the times we've actually seen it, some of the other cats may have been nearby, but not every time. A couple of days ago he was alone with DH in the bathroom and peed on the floor. We have been working with him and will continue to do so. We're doing our best to resolve this issue. This has become pretty stressful for my DH and he is having some health problems of his own right now. We've agreed that we'll try everything to get him retrained and to help him. It isn't easy to try and retrain him when it mostly happens either at night or during the day when we're at work. This morning I saw him hovering near the box in the hall, so I put him in and scratched his paw. He jumped out. I put him back. He jumped out again and started scratching at the floor, which is what he always does prior. I placed him back in the box and scratched his paw again. He looked up at me as if he was confused so I scratched it again. And then he used it. Last night we saw him climb into the box and pee, though we did find poop in the floor when we got home. We found nothing this morning first thing. Later we found a puddle on the kitchen floor, which definitely happened after we woke up because I checked when when we first got up. The amitriptyline certainly wasn't a first consideration. Actually it wasn't the first suggestion the vet made either. But if all else fails we are willing to try it. It is not, though, a downer. It's actually an antidepressant and anxiety relief medication.

Brad and Nancy, the azaleas are coming along fine; sorry they won't grow for you Brad but I am sure you can grow some of the flowers I cannot and drool over here. Lilacs, delphiniums? Nancy thank you but I have only mulched (as of today) about a fourth of the front bed. I have now weeded the path, the Munson bed, the iris row and half of the side bed. The rose/rock bed and the horrendously weedy back beds remain to be weeded plus the other half of the side bed. If it didn't rain so much, I could get ahead, but we all know that isn't goin to happen. kay

Awww. We had a white bulldog and the kids named her Coconut. When she started growing more brown spots, we changed it to ”Cocoa” but on paper her name was always Coco. She was a sweet dopey dog.

You are not only generous to the kitties you've adopted, Lilo, but also the kitties left with Blackie, who are now getting more to eat and allowing Mom to beef up a little. What a huge litter. Did they all survive or are there only six?
We need pictures and when you are not too busy with the kits real physical needs, please post some.

Good luck with the kittens. I know you're going to enjoy then tumbling about and learning to get used to their new environment. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

I've been thinking of you and the kits off and on all day, Lilo. I know you are very busy with the little dearies but when you get a free minute, some photos will be great. I love the names, Jazzie and Maxie. One of my daughters had a wonderful cat named Maximus, aka Max. And to keep up the Gladiator theme, she named the next one Juba, Maximus's African friend in the film. Hope all is going well with the kittens and also YOU.

This is funny - because I just took some pictures and posted one on the gallery. The series needs some editing, but this one turned out pretty good.
They are starting to wrestle and play, which is why it is hard to get a decent picture.
By the weekend the cage will be moved into the living area, right now they are in the guest room.
Two reasons: I am having overnight guests next Monday, and the other, more valid reason is that Taffy and Sooty may as well get used to their presence.
So far they have ignored these new family members,both stay outside much of the day and when they are in, they pretend
that the guest room doesn't exist.
They may as well cowboy up and face the new ones.
