Damaged Phal spike... should I do something?

One of my bigger Phals been blooming for about a month now. It has about a 2' long spike, about 12 flowers and a 2nd flower branch 2" below the lowest flower. It had a beautiful 160 degree arch. Then all of sudden I came home from work few days ago, the spike is bent above the 3rd flower (counting from the lower end). It looks "pinched", sort of like if you bend a drinking straw. The blooms are still big & beautiful, and the buds are opening sequentially like it normally would. I currently use a butterfly clip to support the "limpy" section. I normally would just cut it & place the spike in the water until the blooms are gone, but then I notice a small spur at the 2nd node from the bottom of the spike.

My question is -- should I leave it along, or should I cut the spike where the damage is to avoid possible infection? I am afraid to cut it b/c 1.) I don't want the 2nd flower branch to bud blast & 2.) kill the whatever that's developing at the node. Or am I worry too much?

Thanks,

KC
