Quote for the Day 17 June, Father's Day

First of all, Happy Father's Day to all of you of that persuasion out there. I'd like to do "Father" quotes this week.

This is Poppy. My gramps on my father's side. I'd say this picture is vintage 1920s or early thirties, judging by the clothes. Poppy is what my g'mother always called him and his lap was where I'd love to be when we'd visit. He smelled of wonderful pipe tobacco, and had stories to tell and I never heard him talk in anything but the gentlest of voices.

I've always chuckled at this quote so thought I'd share it first:

Poppy looks so relaxed and gently bemused...I'll bet he was beloved by all. (I'm sort of partial to good humor and quiet strength in a man...makes daily life so much more pleasant and hard times easier to get through.)

That's one of my favorite Twain quotes ...and applies to girls and their Moms often, too. josh

Good one Calliope. I miss my Dad and Grandads on this day. Do you remember those narrow brimmed hats came back into style in about 1955 or 56? Steve in Baltimore County.

Nicole, don't know her name is but she's a geisha. There's also a matching samurai who stand tall over her which I would just love to find to complete the set. My DH gave her to me many years ago. There are no markings on it so I don't even know where to begin the search and the store he bought it at no longer exists. Jodi-

Love your picture of Poppy. My grandfather on my dad's side was locally know as Grandpa Billy Goat because he would huff & puff a lot but we all knew it was all for show. Underneath he was a big ball of mush.

And the quote is one of those universal truths. I think we can all relate to how our parents miraculously became smarter as we got older.
