Gandle, we women just do this to see if you men are paying attention. Perhaps she liked the smell. Perhaps the shape intrigued her. Perhaps it was a gift.

If it doesn't suds well, when was the last time you checked your water softener (assuming your water is hard)? It may be that she just got bored or added it as a decor item. Or maybe it was on sale and she figured you wouldn't notice.

Perhaps it was a test to ensure you wash your hands, in which case: Congratulations! Your hygiene is impeccable!

You make me laugh, if only in recognition. Steve peppered with me with questions when I threw away the old (cracked) soap and replaced it with something new. I just preferred the smell and color and got annoyed by the fact that the old soap cracked.

I like Pears soap. We used that when we lived in England. It's similar to Neutrogena, and I remember the distinctive aroma.

You'll probably get used to it after awhile, and maybe even like it.

Some people get used to the smell. I never did, although for years a dear person would annually give me a box of six. That's why I *never* choose soap or perfume for a gift.

Jaz ~ put soap slivers in an old stocking and hang it by the outside faucet, convenient for cleaning the hands after gardening.

I think Pears Soap is a glycerin soap;
it doesn't lather up like the newer types,
but it's very good for your complexion.

It's wonderful soap. What most people are using now are not so much soap as detergent bars. I don't use them, and only use a hand made soap made by a friend. My husband panics when I run short on them and makes me order them in advance.

Actually lots of suds are not necessary for cleansing. It's a concept we have bought into. Stuff to make our cleaning soaps and shampoos suds are added for that benefit because we think they must, and equate high sudsing with clean. I buy a "green" product to mop my floors with, and my only complaint is that it suds up to high heaven compared to using Murphy's, another fav.

Pears Soap is very famous. And Sylvia is right, it's a glycerin soap. George, use that Pears Soap and your skin will be like a baby's bottom:)

Another person who uses handmade soap. An old GP friend sends it to me for Christmas & my birthday. I absolutely love it & now have to hide it from DH. He used to think that only Ivory would do, but now he's trying to swipe my good stuff.
