Name That Plant!

Unknown creeping plant-help me identify

This plant his grown along our front porch and sidewalk since we moved in about 18 years ago. I don't know if it is a "weed" that just grew there voluntarily or someone planted it deliberately before we moved in, but I like it, so I have been transplanting bits of it in other places trying to encourage it to cover most of the area between the walk and driveway. It is a creeping ground-cover-like plant with no root system to speak of, just sort of attaches itself to the surface of the soil. It looks a lot like the moss rose I planted, only it has shorter, wider leaves that are less needle-like and it is a brighter green. You can see some moss rose in the lower right of the photo for comparison. Later in the summer it gets very small yellow flowers. Maybe it is a sedum of some sort?

I think you may be right about the sedum but what kind I do not know.

Yes, two species of stonecrop visible in shot.

Melon, squash (cucurbita) seedling in the very beginning look alike. I am talking about seed leaves. But water melon then grows markedly different true leaves from the rest. But even then watermelon is not like what you describing. I think, perhaps what you have is a bean, climbing or other. As I can tell, some beans grow double leaves and vines grow from between them. Actually the vine is a series of double leaves that keep getting further apar and smaller, smaller.

I don't recognize the first plant but the second sure looks like a mulberry to me, probably bird planted. I suggest you take it out now before it's more established.

Also known as Heal-all, Prunella vulgaris is used in herbal medicine and the leaves are edible.

Perhaps Sedum sarmentosum for the green one that takes up most of the picture. Carol identified that for me either (mine was showing yellow star-shaped flowers).

Thinkin' esh ga nailed it. S. sarmentosum. Sedum on right maybe S. sexangulare?

Yep, found pictures of S. sarmentosum and I have to agree that is what the mystery plant is. I thought the other plant was the moss rose I planted last year making a comeback, but now I don't think so. I think I remember this being around last year in addition to the moss rose and the S. sarmentosum. It just has never grown as prolifically as the S. sarmentosum.

Not too many things do grow as prolifically as Sedum sarmentosum...

That second Sedum could be Blue Spruce.

I have S. reflexum ("Blue Spruce") in several spots - much larger and much more blue. S. sexangulare is a small critter - refer to the orighinal picture. S. reflexum (at least, mine) is larger in ratio to S. sarmentosum. Not trying to be argumentative, but trying for a positive ID. Check it out. May be some other of the myriad of sedums!
