late start soil preparation for vegetables

I'm living seasonally in maine through october, zone 5-6, and starting my first vegetable garden, preferably organic. I have two raised boxes about 3'x5' that are south facing and two raised beds that are against the house that are west facing but have a lot of shade. I've already bought some seedling plants and anxious to get them in the ground but i'm worried about what to do as far as soil preparation.

I'm on the way to buy a soil testing kit now, but as i'm reading around i guess it's too late to do much about changing the ph if i want to plant right away. I'm also reading that i should solarize the soil to sterilize it from any disease, which takes a few weeks. Considering i was told there was a widespread blight last season i'm thinking this is important. But i also don't want to start planting late into june and not sure if the seedlings will hold up until then. Can anyone offer any advice?
