almost ready for making compost tea - couple of questions

I now have all the aeration equipment (aquarium pump, bubblers, valve distributor) and am ready to start making my first batch of compost tea! Very exciting for me. Someone on this forum suggested that I use alfalfa meal since I don't really have well-rottet compost available and I have found a source at the local feed store (alfalfa pellets). I was wondering if this would make for a more odiferous compost tea than when using garden compost?

Also is it better to apply to finished tea to a dry or wet soil?

Thanks so much for any info.

Oh, and does anyone have a good source for green sand? People just look at me with a blank stare when I mention it in the local garden centers.
