45W CFL, orchids, & flowering orange tree

This is amazing. The little Calamondin orange tree is blooming and setting fruit in the growing area where lower-light orchids live. It usually blooms in full sun on the deck. This hasnÂt happened in the 4 years IÂve had the orange tree.

The plants are on top of a 2-drawer file cabinet, and the orange tree is 5Â 8" from the E/SE windows. Supplemental light is from one 45W CFL in a brooder fixture. The orange tree is on the far side of the CFL from the window, and only about 20% of the tree is under the edge of the light at a time - it gets rotated every day or so.

Plants directly under the light:

- Gastrochilus japonicus

- Phal. Guadalupe Pineda

- Porroglossum dalstroemii

- Restrepia muscifera

The Calamondin orange is in the foreground, on the right.

Blossoms and a tiny orange with part of the flower still on it. The squigglies are the ever-present dog hair.

Oh, and the CFL is 2+ years old. Is this weird, or what?
