row covers, squash & potatoes & bugs

In an effort to reduce the damage from potato beetles and SVB this year I put row covers over the potatoes and squashes when they were seedlings. I also hand-picked some beetles and eggs from the potatoes. However, now the potatoes have grown so tall that they have pushed the row cover up and out, and the squashes are starting to do the same plus vining beyond what I can cover. The cucumbers will climb on trellises. I think I am just going to have to take the covers off and deal with the bugs. How do you effectively use row covers for tall plants, climbers and spreaders like squash? Or maybe you can't?

I think I can hand pick most of the potato beetles, but my concern now is the impending influx of leafhoppers which damaged my potatoes last year. I expect they will be back. What protection can I offer the potatoes if I can't cover them? I think the squashes will just have to receive injections of BTK like last year.
