Where the Boys are - Lawn Boys

In my quest to buy my first ever Lawn Boys I thought it would be in the Christmas spirit to let you guys know where there are some deals - if they are good deals, then you decide. I wound up buying a 2001 year model # 10552 in Indiana for $140. It was barely used and traded in to a flee market dealer by an elderly couple who wanted a Honda mower instead. Runs and looks great. Just missing a battery? Where do I find a cheap battery. I don't need it now, but in 20 years, who knows? Here goes, (get your wallets out):

1) In Allentown, PA there is a mower dealer called Stefco. He has a model number 10547 for $425. Condition unknown.

2) In Albuquerque, New Mexico, there is an UNUSED model 10550 for $500. Mower dealer is called Aragon Lawn & Wood.

3) In New Hampton, IA. There is a hardware store called Leichtman Industrial Hardware. Selling a model# 10550 for $500 and a push version for $400 both UNUSED.

4) In Jefferson, Maryland, there is a hardware store called HC Summers with TWO UNUSED model #10550 for $480 each.

5) In Madison, Indiana there is a mower dealer named Andersons Sales & Service with a model 10525. Selling for $35. Transmission is busted. If they fix it and tune it, it sells for $460. Wow! big difference.

That is all for now. I still know of an unused model # 10550 for $396 but I am not talking on that one. I may go back for it. If I am good, maybe it will be in my Christmas stocking this year. Anyone know of a good model 10525 for sale? I have garage space for one more. Hope Santa is good to everyone.

Did you find any commercial looking for 22261 or any toro commercial 2 cycle?

No 22261's that I came across. Hard to imagine finding a new one of those. I do have a couple of good sources, however. Shop owners told me cases where the husband dies, and the wife wants to trade in his 2 cycle mowers for a new riding mower. Stuff happens!

If you go to New Haven Power web site, in New Haven, CT, they have some uncovered, unused, 2 cycle Toro model # 22242 for $450 (steel deck self propel) and model # 20441 (steel deck push) still left. The higher end, cast deck cast deck, 2 cycle Toros just recently sold out. Anyway, more bucks than I have. Hope your pockets are deeper than mine.

....but did not remove the gas.... Your carb is probably gummed/varnished up, or else you forgot to turn on the fuel shut off valve. You need to read the OM regarding storage.

Mmser If you need a Float, Needle and Seat. The parts are no longer available.You can find them at a Lawnboy dealer if you are lucky. I took the Needle and seat from another model (forget what one) and it worked with a small mod. It was to long and would not allow the fuel to flow when tight. I cut two small grooves into the top of the Seat forming an X with a Dremel and cut-off blade. It has given no problems since they were installed. Funny thing. You can't even hardly find carb parts for the Dura Force engines at the moment. Everyone tells me that Toro dropped all support for the 2 cycle Lawnboy's and what parts the dealers and suppliers have on hand now is all that will be available. Some aftermarket compines such as Stens still have some parts. But who knows for how long?

Thanks for the responses. I did set the float level according to the manual and took apart and cleaned out the muffler underneath the deck. I also cleaned and re-oiled the foam air filter. I may not have used enough oil on the filter, but it's not clear that this would cause it run rich? I also cleaned and regapped the spark plug. I didn't check to see that the new float needle and seat were completely shutting off the gas flow if left to sit for a long time. It's not impossible that air was still seeping into the float chamber through the gasket, but I have my doubts since leveling out the ears on the float bowl seemed to produce a good mating of the surfaces. Thanks, bestf100 I wish I was closer I'd pick that one up. sfhill, Thanks for taking Lawnboys to the junkyard. Because of people like this I stay well supplied with great easy projects. The only problem now is the landfill guys want them now more than ever for all the aluminum they possess. biglumber, I'm like you, its a way of life for some. And yes I'm in my thirties and collect Lawnboy mowers. You gotta have some sort of hobby, It keeps me out of the bars and such. Neal

Problem with selling mowers is packing and shipping. I wouldnt want to sell my 10525 for less than 300.00 and the shipping would run about 100.00 in most instances. Finding one local or buying that broken one and fixing it would be your best bet. Im sure after stealing that 10552 for 140 bux you would never be satisfied paying large again.. LOL
