I usually jam to what people call "the oldies" these days... hard rock from the 60's through today, including a lot of heavy metal and 80's hair bands... yes, I had "big blond hair" at one time, and wore a lot of leather and concert t's, and I still love my custom tattoos and piercings, and I'm a Grandma! I'm not really THAT old, though... unless you count 51 old! ;-)

Some of my favs include... and please forgive me if I spell any wrong... Def Leppard, Metallica, Velvet Revolver, The Doors, Led Zep, and on and on... I love my Ipod!

I listen to it while outdoors gardening, so coming up shortly, here... and I can't carry a tune to save my life, so it's a good thing we live rurally and have no close neighbors! Can you picture a Grandma head banging to heavy metal?!

Not too sure your plants would jive to the heavy metal or even to the oldies but goodies. Seems like Classical music is what one experiment found to be interactive with orchid sensibilities!

I just can't get into classical or country music styles... though you'd be surprised how many rock guitar riffs originated from classical music. And of course, rock & roll originated from the blues...

And quite honestly, none of my roses or other garden plants have complained yet... so they must not hate rock & roll that much! ;-)

What can I say? I just don't fit the typical mold for gardening Grannies! :-)

jodi, I'm a little older than you, but Journey is my favorite to do housework or garden by. Have also listened to Johnny Rivers, but that's been a long time ago. Guess I probably don't fit the typical Granny mold since my granddaughter and her friend saw my Journey CD laying around one day and that raised their eyebrows. My kids did the heavy metal music which I couldn't quite get into; no country music either!!!

I'm 5 years younger than jodi, but I think our playlists probably overlap by a great deal. Def Leppard is my favorite! I sing so loud- good thing my place is rural! I like Journey, too, Bev - saw them play in San Francisco back in the 80's... .when they started up with 'when the lights..go down.. in the CITAY'- the place went nuts. Since I have two teens I get their music too- one kid likes straight up rock like her Mum, the other one listens to crazy-town stuff like her Dad- she calls it 'operatic rocktastic'. But some of it is pretty okay. All I know is I inspect my orchids, plant my vegetable seeds, and rock out. Makes for a great day.

Oh my gosh, the memories! Concerts... when tickets used to be reasonably priced, like souvenir t-shirts! I saw Judas Priest live when they were a BACK UP BAND for UFO!! :-)

I've seen so many concerts live, I couldn't even recall them all... Rush, The WHO, Yes, REO Speedwagon, Journey, AC/DC, UFO, ELO, and the list goes on and on... the t-shirts may have faded, but the memories will be around forever! Good times... good times!

Being in northern IL, there were plenty of large concert venues... The Amphitheater in Chicago, Alpine Valley in southern WI, then the one built closer to Barrington, IL... can't recall the name at the moment...

I love Journey! I can tolerate a little country rock, like 38 Special, a little Willie & Whalen, maybe... Steve Earl... and a few others... but for the most part, I gotta have my rock! I liked Ted Nugent when he was younger, and then with the Damn Yankees... but now, I find him insufferable due to opposing political views. I tend to be a bit on the liberal side, while he's just gone over edge conservative, but I think a lot changes when wealth enters the picture, so... I'll just leave it at that.

Anyway... I hear ya, Bev! And, Lisa, I think our playlists would definitely overlap... maybe more than you think! I can definitely jam to Eminem, 50 Cent, Pink, and a lot of other varied artists!

My kids, who are all adults now, were into the same music we are, plus a lot of newer stuff. My son is a huge fan of ICP, which isn't my favorite, but I find a few tunes kind of humorous, so... we all have slightly different tastes.

As long as it isn't straight out country or bubblegum pop, I'm ok with it. Rock, Metal, Rap, Grunge, you name it.

I even dig the Blues... old stuff from Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, to a lot of the more well known modern bluesmen, like Jeff Healy, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray... and who can resist BB King when those fingers make his guitar, "Lucile", just sing on her own?!

You ladies are really taking me back... good times, indeed! :-)

I haven't exactly asked my plants which they prefer, but since I haven't gotten any complaints, I'll stick with what I've been listening to... and until they complain about my off-key singing, I'm just gonna go for it! It makes me happy! :-)

I'm glad you started this thread... this has really helped... it's brought back a lot of missing memories for me. About 7 or 8 years ago, we were caught in a bad car accident as passengers, myself and my husband, and I woke up in the hospital with a heck of a head injury... the worst kind, and the slowest to heal, with lots of memory loss. You've jogged loose a lot of things that haven't surfaced in years... so, thank you. :-)

Child of the late 60's /early 70's here, been to so many great concerts (a lot I can't remember real well, aahhh the 70's!!!!), last concert I attended was Black Crowes opening for ZZ Top in the mid-90's, damn was it loud :-)

Used to be into hard rock and still am at times, but am more into 'words' now. I've been a huge Buffett fan since the late 70's and after that I can listen to anything by Paul Simon. His album "Hearts and Bones" is absolutely amazing the more you listen to it and Graceland may be the best album ever produced IMO...

Well my husband is polluting the minds of my children with disco!!! I can handle K.C & the Sunshine Band but the rest of that crap can drive me nuts. My dad raised me on Brubeck and a ton of other classic jazz guys. My dad still has this great stereo that he built with the huge tube speakers and turntable. I would find the sweet spot in the middle of the floor and fall asleep listening to "Take Five". My mom likes Bluegrass and Swing. My sister was a classically trained musician that played at least 4 instruments.I was introduced to lots of crazy things. So some of my favorites are Van "the Man" Morrison, Primus, Beck, the Wailin' Jennys, The Chieftains, the Chilly Peppers, oh and I love Bosa Nova stuff too, Rush, Ricky Skaggs, love Black Crowes and Buffett too Bob. But my fav is still Brubeck.

Oh and I can't forget Squirrel Nut Zippers and No Doubt! I know it sounds weird but they're really good.gb

I think it's interesting to note how varied even one person's tastes can be. Ginnibug's, as example... all over the place, but with a lot of good stuff! Mine are the same... all over the place, but with an interesting group of selections.

I doubt I could even list every single band or musician I enjoy, and my Ipod is crammed with everything from Christmas music to the craziest of bands!

Lyrics are interesting to me, also... for example, one of my favorite tunes is by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young... "Southern Cross", I believe it's called... and I've always loved the words of Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel, Heart, Pat Bennitar, Moody Blues, The Doors, and so many more...

Gosh, the variety out there is amazing! And the variety people are drawn to here is really interesting!

In its heyday, I couldn't stand Disco! Now, I can listen to a little of it... it brings back memories. Just recently I watched John Travolta in "Stayin' Alive", I think it's called. I'm having a memory glitch at the moment.
