Things are beginning to settle down

I still haven't moved downstairs to my bedroom and bathroom

but I kind of enjoy living up here in the loft apartment.

It is spacious and I don't have to make the bed if I don't

want to. I have everything I need, a bed, bathroom, living room and even a small area to make coffee or toast, a tv and computer. It's heated and air conditioned so it is pretty comfortable. It is also quiet.

The master bath is almost finished, well, the wallpaper is going to have to wait for awhile. I was totally blown away by the cost of the paper and the amount of paper it was going to take. I decided not to do it right now.

If I could find my camera, it has gone missing since the move, I would take pictures and post them. We made a shower out of the sauna and it is BIG. There is now a regular tub

where the big whirlpool tub used to be. A privacy wall is between the tub and vanity area. The vanity has been revamped to allow for a place to sit and also a storage

cabinet on the wall next to the entry door. There is going to be storage across from the tub and also across from the

potty. The potty is private now thanks to the addition of a

pocket door. The mirrors are all gone except there will be

a mirror over the vanity.Lots of recessed lighting brightens the place up.

I have Azaleas getting ready to bloom, hostas are sprouting

in a few places and I have hummingbirds. I'm even getting a bit excited about planting some pots after the last freeze

has come and gone.

I even got the tax stuff to the accountant with Katrina's help. She is so organized that by the time next year rolls

around, taxes will no longer be the big bad giant looming over my shoulder.

To my surprise, I haven't grieved over leaving the lake house like I thought I would. Shoot, I'm so close to everything here, I have a garden of sorts, birds, and I even have a rabbit in my yard. It's a lovely neighborhood

with friendly neighbors.

Just this morning I went to my little market and picked up a gallon of milk and some toothpaste. It's so close I can do

that now instead of having to make a list and spend the day

buying groceries.

It's really nice to be able to finally begin to relax a little. Sassi and I sat on the screened porch today for awhile. Everything is blooming and so pretty except for the pollen, the rain tonight will wash that away.

Yes, things are beginning to settle down, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I can finally breathe again.

I'm going to get off the Merry Go Round for now and let someone else ride. :0)

I'm so glad you're finally getting settled in a bit and can relax some. :) It is so nice to be really close to things. I have a Trader Joe's right near where I get off the train, so easy to pick up some milk or bread.

I feel your pain on the remodel. We have been doing our kitchen for what seems like ages. The decisions never seem to stop. Or the check-writing.

Would love to see pics!

Seriously, I'm glad to hear that things are looking up and you're making room on that merry-go-round. It's my turn next. I've given the landlord notice, and the boxes are already beginning to pile up. Only problem is, I have no idea where we're moving to yet...

Thanks, all. Of course you may, Daniella... anything for you. I will be happy to send some, Ryan, as soon as I get to dividing some up. That is Cape Honeysuckle, and it grows like a weed. If you need some, let me know, Karyn. Laura is doing very well. She is starting to get out. She still has a nurse visit her at home everyday, and has appointments with three doctors this week, starting tomorrow. She'll be back at work, before you know it. Hope that computer is holding up, Lucy.

Damon, I'm surprised Danko didn't rate higher. Well, I should say disappointed not surprised. I was hoping a semi-determinate heart got high praise, because I suspect it has the best chance of working for me. Also, I am down to 17 plants from 60 and a couple of them are about to be removed this weekend. For me it looks like Champion and Red Beefsteak Heirloom (so named by Bonnie) are going to set a lot of fruit for Fall. I just don't know if they will blush in time. My two Sungolds mysteriously defoliated this week. Just like that. Wierd. It was 110 here today and will be the same all weekend. You want to grow my Bobbie heart seed next year, right? :winkwink:

We have introduced new cats and kittens to our home a number of times, and things invariably calmed down after a few weeks, except in the case of unaltered males. We had two males when we were raising Abyssinians; *they* lived as pets, but always had to be kept apart until we finally gave up breeding kittens and neutered them. Then they had an armed truce, so to speak, and could be left together in the same room. I agree with Laurie about keeping the kitten from bothering the male and not disciplining him. It might also be wise to avoid paying special attention to the new one in front of your old boy. (By the way, has he been neutered? That could make a difference, too.) Don't give up. They are bound to at least tolerate each other eventually. By the way, cats often establish a pecking order, which should be respected. Our present two cats, both of which were abandoned kittens that we took in, are great friends. I often come home to find them cuddled up in the same box or on the furniture. But if I am there, then they don't do that. The one we took in first, Siphon, obviously considers himself to be "first cat" and is jealous to protect his special rights. The other cat, Rosie, "knows her place," too, and immediately jumps down from my lap if "first cat" comes into the room and puts a paw on my knee. She can also not get into the bed with me if "first cat" is there and realizes it, so she sneaks around over the pillows to my other side and gets under the covers. If Siphon so much as utters a cry of annoyance, she is out of there like a flash. She has, however, established the small table in front of the toilet as her territory, where she can elicit all the petting from me that she wants (and, incidentally, prevent me from reading, lol). Siphon never tries to evict her from there. So I would treat your older cat as "first cat" and always give him precedence. For instance, if both cats are in the room, I never pet Rosie without also petting Siphon, usually doing him first, then petting her, then giving him the last pat, or else I pet them both at the same time. Maybe I am overdoing it, and if these were humans, I would never discriminate like that, but both cats seem quite happy this way.

Thanks, everyone!! It's so nice to finally see some progress. Almost nothing had been done for a month or more so I was beginning to get depressed and ready to just give up! The only thing right now that I'm not happy with is the fact that the windows aren't going to be counter height. I'm so irritated with myself that I let that slip past! The contractor made the cutouts for the windows exactly where the architect specified on the plans, but I knew all along I wanted them to go to the counter. Well, stupid me, I didn't check until the actual windows went in and then it was too late to change without MAJOR expense (there are 5 windows). So...I'm telling myself that I'm going to be happy just to have that many windows :) Kat (I just replied to your floor thread with a photo of my dog!) - the wall color is called Argos (from SW). It's sort of a true medium gray, but leans a bit more toward blue than green. There's only one coat on now, so once the final coat is on after the kitchen is done I think it will look even better. I'm really happy with the color thank goodness - I tried at least 6 samples before finding it! The cabinets are white shaker style with a few stainless "flip-ups" as well (what are those actually called??). The lowers will be mostly drawers except for the sink and corner cabinets. Countertops are granite with Cambrian Black antique finish on the perimeter and Persian Pearl antique finish on the island. The island will also have a raised glass shelf which overhangs slightly in order to sit on barstools there. Floors will be very dark hardwood (ebony I think). Sorry - that's probably too much info!! I could go on and on since I'm so excited about the progress now! Rhome410 - I'm laughing at the fact that you used the phrase "cute and functional" for the old kitchen! :) The photo definitely doesn't show how UN-functional it was! There's exactly 2 upper and 2 lower cabinets. I can actually reach ONLY the bottom shelf of each upper and have to climb on the counter for the second (forget about the 3rd and 4th!). And I'm not that short at 5'5"!! I have to crawl into the lower corner cabinet and dig around to find anything. About 5-6 ft total of counter space cut in half by the sink. The microwave is coming in handy as the liquor cabinet - it used to be stored in the closet (can't really call it a pantry), but lost that a long time ago since it was at the edge of the new kitchen and had to go.

Now you can do some discovery in the new neighbor hood. Have fun in your new digs and keep us up to date on how the garden grows.

Jan,it sure sounds as if you made the perfect decision at the perfect time. Once you are all settled,I'll bet it's going to be a very relaxing lifestyle for you,with a lot less worries about the yard,the house and all those things that go with mainitaining a big house on a lot of land.

Kim...make room on the merry-go-round for me, please. I was served my divorce papers today. Seems the man I thought I married was just a figment of my imagination and, in actuality, I was married to the spawn of satan. Not only do I have to move, he's fighting me for custody of my DS. If the merry-go-round has a roof, I may just end up living there!

Isn't it great to actually see the light at the end of the remodeling/renovation tunnel? Now you can really start enjoying your new house & new neighborhood.

Maryanne, best wishes to you on the path you are about to travel. Keep track of all paper work and stay safe. Missy and I have both been there and have been together now for 25 years, longer than both former situations combined.

Ell, it was good to see you back here if only for a moment.
Kitchens are the hardest to do and bring the most
satisfaction. I wish I could have done this kitchen but
money and time has run out on me.

Sheila, I'm beginning to feel more like me.

Andie, it's always good to see the light at the end of the tunnel no matter the situation.

Don, Neil and I have been together now for 38 years this year
and it was more than the combined time with the others
also. Sometimes it takes a second chance to get it right.

Maryanne, it will be hard for you to go through this but
you will finally be free to move on.

Jan, I'm so glad to hear the storm is nearly past and you are enjoying the calm of the moment. Maybe there is no such thing as a "perfect" decision, but you've done something that many people in your stead could not have done: You made a decision, you saw it through, you accepted help when you needed it, you made peace with your mistakes along the way, and you are living in the land of "now" (not what once was, nor what could have been). For that I applaud you. Life is full of change regardless of whether we are ready for it or not. (Easier said than accepted!) Kudos to you for recognizing the direction of the current and navigating it in a graceful manner... and not fighting it until you drown!

Maryanne, I did not realize you were not divorced years ago! How awful for such a thing to drag on without an end! How idiotic for him to make it more painful than it needs to be... for all the parties involved! Courage. Once it's severed, his leverage is gone.
