The relationship between a Phal spike and the bottom leaf

User

I have a weak but beautiful type of Phal. I want it to grow larger. So I did the following and failed:

The flower spike always appears right above the very bottom leaf. Let's call the very bottom leaf no. 1. The one leaf above it, on the other side, is no. 2. The one above it, on the same side of no. 1, is no. 3, etc.

I cut the flower spike completely from leaf no. 1. Then, shortly after, another spike appeared at leaf no. 2. At the same time, leaf no. 1 and the associated section of the plant dissipated and a new leaf appeared.

Then, I cut the flower spike again, a third spike appeared at leaf no. 3. At the same time, leaft no. 2 and the associated section of plant dissipated and a new leaf appeared.

It seems:

(a) The Phal keeps its size no matter how I cut the spikes.

(b) Cutting a spike completely leads to disappearing of the bottom level of the plant and the one leaf at that level. The plant shifts up toward the growth point by one leaf.

Now, my questions:

(c) Do you have similar experiences?

(d) How to force more leaves on a Phal?
