Anyone Have a Favorite Guide To Mulch?
Comments (8)Any material, laid on top of soil, is mulch. How effective any mulch is at helping to suppress unwanted plant growth ("weeds) depends on the thickness, or depth, of that mulch and how well it keeps those unwanted plants from getting the sunlight they need for growth. Shredded leaves, straw, hay, compost, and grass clippings are all good for a vegetable or flower garden, things that will, overtime, add organic matter to the soil. If you can see soil after applying the material it is not deep enough. Mulches can help suppress unwanted plant growth, aid in soil moisture retention, aid in keeping the soil cooler, and add organic matter to the soil, if properly applied. Most all of those are available either free or at low cost. Wood chips can be used but most often cost money, unless tree cutters will deliver them for free. But wood chips are better used around trees and shrubs....See MoreDoes anyone have a favorite scissors to recommend?
Comments (8)I have been cutting for years and my daughter and I love Japanese garden shears for cutting. They stay sharp for years and cut everything even hard woody stems. There are a couple different types we prefer the long ones with both handles white. I'm not sure what the color means but I bought an orange pair and the grip was not right, my mom uses the ones with one handle white and the other red and they seem to do well. I saw them in Peaceful Valley's catalog for $9.99. P.S. I just found this web site and I love reading all of your wonderful expertise, it really helps the spirit on these cold rainy days when I'd rather be gardening!...See MoreDoes anyone have a Best Cattura downdraft? Show pics of install pls.
Comments (25)The installation instruction for a 36" Frigidaire here shows 12" of clearance. The unit is $893. Miele here requires a minimum of 9/16" or 15mm. clearance to an oven installed under the cooktop. Same clearance to a protective base shelf. They want a 3' gap at the rear and suggest a 2" gap at the front for ventilation if one is installed. A protective base isn't required. 3" clearance to a drawer bottom is required if you put a drawer under a unit. A wire drawer sounds like a good consideration. Safety clearances on page 56 and following. $3300. Miele has an upgraded 7000 series of full surface units(6 pan recognition) at the same price points for sale in Europe. US versions aren't yet available. Bosch has 36 and 37" units from $1800-3000. They want airflow cutouts with 4" from the top of the unit to the top of a drawer in addition.Here....See Moredoes anyone have advice on the best TV/mirror- TV behind a mirror
Comments (3)From what I have seen so far the quality of the image on the TV behind the mirror once turned on is not acceptable. Not saying they have not improved, but with as great as TV's are today, I'm not willing to sacrifice the image. Maybe consider a wall cabinet to conceal the TV instead....See Moreterpguy
