Is this a weed I should be worried about?

Just moved into a new home and I'm seeing all these new things popping up.

This plant is creeping along a foot path and is spreading out into the yard. I have no idea what it is. I don't want it to take over, so should I pull it?

Please help, thanks!

This is another shot about 1 week before the first photo I posted. You can see it sprouting up next to these spring cuties.

I think there is now a legal requirement that herbicides and pesticides must break down after they are applied. So, chemicals such as DDT are no longer allowed. The process is called mineralization. Usually it is measured at the site of application; if it is applied to a lawn, the persistence of the chemical is measured in the soil where it was applied. The process of breaking down the chemicals is typically via bacteria, so the presence of organic material that is decomposing affects the rate of decomposition of the chemical. Composting will, of course, speed the breakdown of these sorts of chemicals. My compost takes about two years to complete. So it becomes a judgement call. If you are comfortable knowing that lawn chemicals are designed to break down via bacteria, then you might be ok with other people's grass clippings if you compost it for a couple of years. Obviously, if you use lawn chemicals on your own lawn, you will know when they were last applied. You might want to dispose of the grass clippings right after a chemical application.

Terry, Towns that spray (and I saw a sprayer in my area 2 yrs ago) are incredibly stupid. The moaquitos are killed, and so are their natural predators. The mosquitos bounce right back. Their predators don't. That makes them spray more. The chemical companies make a bunch of $. And we imbibe low levels of nasty compounds that act on our CNS. THen we wonder why we get cancer. It's hard to stop them, but protest you must. I think if you google on it, you'll find resources that may give you info. And inform others. We can change the world, 1 child at a time, and 1 yard at a time. This is not a political statement, rather an environmental one. In the end, working with Nature is much more effectvive than working agaisnt her!

Should I worry about trees just falling over?

I know you are talking about wind blowing over a tree so maybe someone has experience with that, but the only trees I've seen 'falling over' are the live oaks which are really leaning, in fact almost horizonal, like some live oaks grow when crowded in a group of other live oaks. When the canopy of the leaning tree becomes weighted from the rain and the ground gets soft from the same they can uproot. There's a lot of them that grow like that in my neighborhood, but only a couple have uprooted. I guess a lot depends on how deep the roots are able to go. We have very thin soil here on top of rock, so unless a tree root finds a few cracks in the rocks in which to anchor they can be shallow rooted. BTW, we've had 3 1/2 inches here since last night. I hope everyone's okay and their trees too.

Well the hole around that pipe on the right, should be sealed. I cant tell exactly what that is on the left, but. mostly what I have seen in all your pictures, is that there is a lot of deferred maintenance. None of which take a long time, to take care of, and your yard, definitely needs a very good raking, and clean up. On the interiior, that one picture of the ceiling, there appears to be a very wide line down from the ceiling line. Tape should not go that far down. Wondering if there was a wall paper border on there, and someone was too lazy to remove it, before painting over it. Or if that is actually a wall corner, and someone left the old wallpaper under and painted over it will do that. It could be the seam I am seeing is the actual wallpaper and it has been improperly wrapped around a corner. If the paint is latex, it will cause the border or any wallpaper to do what I am seeing there. Everything I am seeing, looks to be maintenance issues. Congratulations on your new home.

Why do new people's zones keep disappearing from their profiles? This is at least the 100th one I've seen in the past month.

If Salt's right, that may be why the other people moved. Well that's a slight exaggeration, slight... I've only ever seen the variegated version and hope I never do again.

As Saltcedar says, it`s Aegopodium podagraria, the common name here in Britain is Ground Elder. It is very invasive. The best remedy is to treat with a systemic weedkillers such as Glyphosate.

oh.. and as to your title specifically..

QUIT WORRYING ABOUT IT!!!!..

either enjoy it.. or get rid of it..

but gardening is NOT for worrying ... its to make you forget about your worries ...

so use this thing.. to take out some of your anger or pent up stresses ...

but never worry ....

I don't like herbicides, but agree in this case. A lot of invasives will grow back from pieces of root left behind when you pull or dig. What was one plant will turn into a multitude. There's an invasive here that I've seen sprout new growths in a straight line (along a root) after someone tried to pull it out.
