tiny pine tree looking weed-pic

Can you tell me what this is? I have moved and I coated this area in herbicide 5 times before bringing my plants over. I'm guessing it is very hard to kill.

if you have had success with getting rid of this I'd also like to know that too.

No perhaps about it...Equisetum, otherwise known as horsetail or that @#$#@#&*$#. Impossible to be rid of it. Supposedly cutting it off at ground level everytime it pokes its head aboveground will eventually kill it, but it takes years and I don't have the patience for that. Every so many years I dig up my entire strawberry bed to get out as many roots as possible. No herbicide will kill it effectively...many studies have been done on this plant to try to find an eradication method. I read things like "just cut it off in the spring...it won't regrow that year." Really? Perhaps it doesn't, but it just throws up another sprout from another node. I weed it out all summer long. I'll look for the technical info and post it if I find it!

I checked "yellow rocket" and what I see on-line is familiar to me -- I've seen it before and it's definitely not the plant I have under the pines. This plant is much larger. I have dock that grows occasionally elsewhere and it's definitely not what I know as dock. Dock has more substantial leaves and a clear tap root that I don't see with this plant. I looked at the on-line pics for Sowthistle and I've also seen that around before, but this isn't it. I'm looking at images for wild lettuce and I don't yet see an exact match, but it's looking close. I'll try to break a leaf and check the root system again and inspect things more closely to see if I can figure it out. Thanks everyone!

Hard to tell as I'm using my phone to browse the net but it looks to be either an ash (Fraxinus) or an Elder (Sambucus). The ash will make a very large shade tree eventually and the elder is a white flowering shrub about 10-20 feet high with smelly leaves(not to be confused with Box Elder which is a maple)

No one suggested Pinus palustris. I'm also at the Jersey Shore at the southern end. I planted this tree as a seedling in 2000. It came from Fairweather Gardens who said it was of VA provenance. It's close to 20' right now and amazingly beautiful. It's far better looking than the pic from the natl arboretum. No cones so far but it's stunning and the only one in town (Cape May). its all over MI ... i forget what it is... but it isnt worth money to try to fix them.. get rid of them ... and replace with anything but a pine ... lol.. i am sure someone will come along and tell you the disease name.. and then suggest that the bugs will follow in attacking the stressed trees ... i got rid of 12 sylvestrus a few years back ... ken
