Name That Plant!

unknown pink/lavender flower-my guess hepatica

This flower was one of the few blooming here in our late Spring in Michigan, it was in a wooded area on a steep slope. No leaves were visible until I removed some of the leaf cover and then there wasn't much identifiable. Stems are quite hairy and the flower resembles Hepatica americana somewhat, and is the only thing I could find that was even close.

I went back to see if any foliage had emerged or enlarged and all the flowers had disappeared; I am guessing that they finished blooming and died back, but they only bloomed for about a week at the most.

That's weird. They're showing up for me. And the pictures you posted aren't showing up on my computer. Anyways, I think you guessed correctly. Kippy, the problem is, pink is the 'default color' for roses. Maybe a raft of photos, at different stages -- images of the whole plant, of a leaf, with all of its leaflets -- the stipule could be helpful. Sprays? Blooms with something for size? Buds. Hips.
