Anyone ele find the Pantene Ads impossible???

I have to look at it twice for several seconds each time to open any links.

....first the animated blue snow falling down the screen blocks out the gardenweb page.
.....must wait for whole page to turn blue and the pantene ad to complete loading before I can click x.(close)

Next, click on gardenweb posting link--- BUT it opens a new browser page and I'm at Pantene.com. WTH!

close that page and try to open the posting AGAIN.

3rd time works

but lather rinse and repeat every time I want to open another link.

I hope they cancel these pantene ads soon cuz I'm out of here if it's this much trouble to look at one single posting.

if you use firefox or google chrome you can download adblock plus, which disables this annoying ad

Marla, Thanks for the reply. I'm already 'working' all the short cuts I know for canning since I do a lot for my own family. I have a very large stash of jars, mostly picked up in my travels when I find them on sale, flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores. I keep adding and stashing :) We've had a few successful small business ventures, so I understand gross sales vs. the bottom line. It's unfortunate, but I've come to understand that when I do something I love to do, I can't expect to be paid as much for my time. That's the price you pay for not being a slave to somebody else's rules, and I think it's mostly worthwhile. The other thing is that we don't expect to make much profit for the first few years while we are learning what our new market customers want, and personally while we are building infrastructure on our property as our budget permits. That said, a lot of what we consider "value added" are the small steps our family has taken to make our microfarm more productive--deer fence, planting rows of berries and other fruits, expanding the range of things we're trying to grow and being creative about maximum use of the space we have, etc. In addition to selling products grown specifically for market plus our excess produce, we're expanding our own food base to keep from dependence on the grocery store. (Adding mushrooms, garlic this fall, chickens next spring...then hopefully bees). These are value added benefits that can't be measured as easily in dollars, but are precious nonetheless (as I'm sure most farmers would agree). We're also enjoying becoming more involved in our community, which is another "value added" benefit. On the kitchen forum many are having serious issues since the change in format. There has been a noticeable decline in postings. I emailed Tamara and told her that I had to change my browner to google chrome with ad block. I didn't mind the ads before but now they were covering text. I had been corresponding with Tamara before about this issue but it was never resolved. The pantene ad was horrendous. I would suggest anyone having any issues being able to use this site to please let Tamara know. It would be really sad if this forum drop off too.

UPDATE: We went to Home Depot and the kitchen designer was able to put together a plan for an upside down L shape kitchen with the peninsular. I think we will also look at doing an upside down U shape kitchen with the stove in the same place with windows on each side, lowers only to the left and the sink, dishwasher and 30' fridge on the right wall, covering at least one of the side wall windows. This would leave us no peninsular, but there is actually a peninsular alread on the other side of the dining room. I know that sounds really strange, so here's a pic. That wall is structural, so we may as well leave it. It might look odd to have two peninsulars in a row in such a small house? Here's a pic so you can see what I mean. We're trying to remove blockages in the house, so the book shelf you can see is coming out, and the wall we are trying to get rid of is the one with the painting on it. I hope this makes some sense to someone with vision! I wish I knew how to use the tools to map it out for you all online.

Impossible mirrors!! These too small?

Hi Again...so the measurements are not adding up for me. I have been looking at sconces to go with mirrors that are large (~30" wide), and on the 48" vanity, that only leaves me with 9" for each side of the mirror. The smallest sconces are 4-6", and even that leaves me with just 3-5" of space, to divide between the shower glass on the left side of the vanity and the left edge of the mirror; same on the other side of the mirror and the wall edge on the right. Certainly 1-2" from the edge of the wall and almost up against the mirror wont look right. How much space do I need to leave for sconces and spacing on the 48" vanity wall? BUT if I must go to a smaller mirror for the 48" vanity, and I try to use the same mirror on the right vanity, it looks dwarfed. Also, the small sconces that I could accommodate on the 48" vanity look dinky on the 65" vanity wall. The taped pictures above are mirrors 40" tall x 30" wide, so to really give me width for sconces the mirror height will also have to be smaller, or they will look really long and skinny, which makes the 65" wall with that mirror even more funny looking. I feel like this will make or break the whole look and I honestly don't see good options. The only option I see is a LOT smaller mirrors than I wanted which will also look funny to my eye. Yes, they've been at for years now - you have to have ad blocking in operation to use this site.

If you use Firefox with adblockplus, you will not see ANY advertisements!

I use Microsoft IExplorer. Went to the Microsoft site and downloaded Abines free anti tracking software called donottrackme.
It seems to block a ton of ads. Guess if the tracking software can't fiquire you out, you get else ads.
I think tracking me is an invasion.
If you install it and can't see the symbol for the software on your toolbar at the top, Click "customize" when you right click your toolbar and move it up so it's visible.
So far it has blocked 28, 388 attempts to track me in a 2.5 months.

Bugbite, that just makes me wonder if THOSE people are the new trackers... I don't like that either.

I don't mind ads, they support this free site. It's a shame they don't know more about what they're doing. I could care less about cleaning products, pickup trucks, or getting an online degree... Ironic that I never see pics of plants for sale.

Good point. I don't mine ads but an incident got to me recently.
I was shopping for something on Amazon recently, let's say a saw.
Two days later I get an email from some site I never heard of before. It said, " We noticed that you were looking at saws on Amazon recently. Why don't you try our site."
That was it!
I retired from the computer security industry and have seen everything, but that freaked me.
I got the tracking blocker software through the Microsoft site; So I felt OK with it. When I installed it I noticed the huge number of crazy, flashing ads on Yahoo came to a halt. They were doing extreme tracking. Now I get normal, nice ads which I do occasionally read, if interested.
The crazy ads are like the used car salesman that comes on the TV and hollers. Does he think he is helping his cause? Most of us reject unwanted noise.
You can go to Microsoft and search "tracking blockers" or Abine.
Incidentally in Europe the gov is passing laws to block trackers. Not here.

Have to agree with Purple, the ads support the site and make it possible to provide "free" access to us. BUT the Pantene ads in my opinion were over the top. They were disruptive and even prevented you from accessing content at all until you closed the ad window - which wasn't obvious at first. If the GW admins are watching this thread and I hope they are, they may wish to rethink trying that style of ad again. Because if I (someone who comes here almost daily) felt like leaving the GW site until the Pantene ads were gone, I'm sure there are plenty of people who did just that - leave.

Agreed. It is not ads; it is over-the-top ad gimmicks that turn us off.
We typically get offended by a person that stands up and hollers. Poor ads holler.
Incidentally I don't get any ads from GW now.
My tracking blocker showed it was blocking the GW tracker. Not sure how that all works.
