Guys, Izzy has sent me a resume and offered to come and take care of the chipmunk issue for me. He enclosed a picture with a teensy little mole or shrew in his mouth. Holding it ever so gently. I didn't want to take the liberty of sharing without asking his mommy, Michele. But I think the rest of the group would enjoy it too. Maybe Michelle will share?

Yes, some of you who have been around awhile know I went out to feed the chickens once in my bibs and had a mouse hike up my leg and take up residence in my bloomers. It didn't roll out my pant leg until I was clean back to the house. EEEEEEEEWWWWW.

OK, here's the skinny on the chipmunk situation. The DH awoke and never bothered to read the note. HE ALREADY KNEW about the chipmunk situation, like yesterday, and never told me! The Tom Cat carried the perfectly unharmed rodent into our solarium on the heels of an egg customer. Then dropped it. The chipmunk thought he died and went to heaven, as I keep tomatoes/seeds/birdseed/peanuts and cat food in my solarium. It was evidently sitting on an antique cabinet by the coat rack eating my tomatoes when I spooked it, reaching for my coat. The kitchen door into the solarium has a pneumatic closer and the spooked chipmunk headed for the door to escape and it closed after the chipmunk, trapping it in my kitchen. The rest is history. I don't know if it found it's way back out or not, as I left the kitchen door ajar when I went out to feed the hens and then had to go to town. (btw, did you know hens can untie shoelaces?)

If the rodent is in the solarium, he'll find a way out when he wants to I guess. There is even a fireplace out there, he could have it worse, and maybe I'll even put down a little dish of water for him? God, never a dull moment.

For all Isabella's vermin eradication, we do have a thriving chipmunk population because they have set up shop in a boulder wall she can't get to because it's behind her Invisible Fence.

Michelle, please tell Izzy I am sorry for mistaking her for a guy. Being a female who has worked most of her life in a male dominated occupation, I should never, ever have assumed just because she is a is a hunter/exterminator that Izzy stands for Ignatz. She might consider wearing a bow or something to compliment her gorgeous Titian good looks.

Great pictures of Izzy. I would hire her on the spot, had I rodents, but due to the cat community in the neighborhood and the lack of hidding places, any kind of rodent has a hard time. Well, squirrels thrive, but they get fed and I can see when the cats get in the yard.

Sometimes other members of the family that use the same computer just don't 'get it' when you try to explain the coffee/tea/soda spewed all over the screen, do they?

He's still in the house this morning. We flushed him out of the living room, and he's somewhere in my inglenook pantry shelves now. We have wooden floors and the poor little thing takes off and slides for yards after he puts his brakes on. He's making those chirping chipmunk calls and I've had to evict the cats AGAIN.

Do you have a live trap?

We've had to use these before to relocate creatures.

They are humane...maybe a little startling for them to be caught but, in the long run, better to go ahead and catch them and send them on their way home.

Izzy is quite alright with being mistaken for a boy. (The mustache doesn't help.) As a spayed dog, she has little pretense to gender. But seriously, you thought I named my dog Ignatz? LOL! (The cat isn't laughing... she can think of at least one possibly worse name, and at least two people who are willing to lay that moniker on a hapless animal.)

Good luck with the continuation of your saga. Hope your 'munk gets back outside before it has a chance to do any damage. My sister has an older Victorian home and a squirrel managed to get into it one day and it chewed all the original molding from their kitchen windows and pooped on their kitchen counter. She about blew a gasket when she came home to find the panicked squirrel and its wake of destruction in her house. You are being much more patient than I could be under similar circumstances. Do chipmunks like to chew live wires as much as domesticated bunnies do?

I remembered your kitty's name, who wouldn't? rofl. So, yea, I thought Ignatz could be a real possibility. I remember old rerun cartoons on television of Ignatz the cat. They were actually produced in the era of my father's childhood so, Ignatz was around well before your time. If am not mistaken those series of cartoons were called "out of the inkwell".

I am in love with Izzy, and have been since I saw the first picture of her. I used to hunt too, Michelle, and have a real respect for those canines who are able to work with humans, no matter what their job...herding or hunting, or guarding. It never fails to amaze me. My son has Labs, and one male he had a few years ago had the "softest" mouth I have ever seen on a large dog. His joy was to gather squash out of the garden and run around the house with it. When he put it down later, it was covered in spit, but the tender skin was never pierced.

One does not get too excited about critters in this old house. I have found baby starlings and chimney swifts in my fireplace hearth, and once a young wild duck. Shrews, moles, mice, toads, tree frogs, black and ring necked snakes, chipmunks, salamanders, brown creepers and bats. Somewhere in my cellar lives a large black snake as well. One just has to be careful not to reach down and grab any black "hoses" or hoe handles. My son has be beat, however. A few years ago, we had two bottle fed calves, and when he weaned one of them she went looking for her bottle and got up on his back porch and through the door. He had a COW in his kitchen.

Yes, I would assume a chipmunk will chew wiring and have been listening closely to my new stainless steel fridge and the freezer. Neither do I want the rodent crawling behind a wall and decomposing. I could have grabbed it once or twice when it was cornered, but I have been squirrel and chipmunk bitten several times. Nature gives cute little critters ugly, sharp, yellow teeth. Not an option.

We have 3 walls with now repaired holes, but for the longest time they had doors with duck tape hinges. Had to get baby squirrels and birds out of of wall behind the refrigerator and a bookshelf. It was not until our house was re-roofed that we found a large knothole in the soffit behind the gutter where the mamas entered and raised their babies. Since the house has not attic and at the same site the wall was not covered, every time the yongsters started to move, they ended up down the wall. Of course once the wall was open, out they came and the hunt was on.

Just keep an eye on your houseplants...I've had ground squirrels and harvest mice stash large amounts of pet food in the dirt, which don't do a whole lot for the health of a plant!

The mice also like to hide food in laundry baskets...even the legs of jeans left on the floor overnite...

Also rolled-up carpet remnants...the hollow inside of those plaster plant pedestal things...seldom-used drawers...

I hear you, Lynnie. Quite a few years ago, ground Jimmies were wreaking havoc in my g'houses and planting seeds, just like you said. They stole tomato seeds from a germinatin flat and I thought they were gone forever. NOT!

Worse. They had methodically sown the tomato seeds over thousands of geranium plants. There were hundreds of little pots with a geranium and a tomato plant both in them. I gave up weeding them out and tried to pass it off as a bonus to my customers. LOL.

Last year, the little blighters kept digging up my new corn plants to steal the still clinging kernel off each stalk. I planted four hundred corn plants several times until I finally got them past the rodents.

Seems the little fella in my kitchen found a secret passageway from the pantry shelves along the dining room hearth into the cellar. It can wing it from there, if it avoids the snake.
