Waiting for the Pineapple Express

It has been so cold and so dry for so long, frustration was building, the sun was shining and it seemed wrong not top go and dig in the dirt, but it still is the wrong season. The pastures were turning brown, the creek stopped running, the pond receded - sunshine was not what we need.

Performing rain-dances seemed futile - well, a change is coming!

The worm has turned, this big, fat worm-like high pressure system is getting bumped and the jet-stream is coming straight from Hawaii, bringing the pineapple express: wet and warmish rain, just what we need.

The grass will green and grow again, the stream will be a babbling brook again, the daffs and crocus will show up, buds will swell.

I am energized, no time to slack off, things need to be done before the rains come and I have a two-day deadline, funny how that makes me so alert and aware and busy!

What a joy it is!

I'm so jealous. It's going down to 7 tonight. Those first warm rains are like heaven and exactly as you said..energizing. I can almost smell that wonderful smell of rain and soil.

Have hope Lilod. It got up to almost 60 today & the sun was shining. It was absolutely wonderful!

Hope you all are still in good shape weatherwise. Saw in the news the snowfall amount on Mt. Shasta and am wondering wether I should be envious since I like snow or glad that I don't have to shovel. Since the upcoming temps most likely will melt a lot of this, the run-off will be added danger. May you be spared landslides. We here in the middle of the country don't realize that too much water can create for you added problems next summer. It's such a balancing act.

Ahhh, the California Tree Poppy, my mom had one in her garden when I was very young, I thought the flowers looked like big poached eggs, it had a really nice fragrance too. Not easy to find in my neck of the woods, I've been looking. Do you know of a nursery here on the island that is carrying them? I've tried them from seed with no success, I think in California they sprout after wild fires, something about heat helping the seed germinate. Annette

I like the name "Pineapple Express"...it just sounds invigorating and refreshing. I've been sending off plant orders for shipment the first week in April...that always sets me smiling. But I'm enjoying the little taste of winter we've had here lately...it came so late and won't last long... temps in 60's again next week. josh

Im not sure what they call what we have but i have a few choice words for it, wind chills of -20, we got at least 24" of snow and i want a Pineapple Express right now.

Right, Husky... but let's be a little more precise so as not to tempt Fate: we want a mildly warm Pineapple Express that has gentle rains of sufficient duration as to restore the water table without causing floods. And breezes instead of winds.

Local expectations are for 2 to 7 tonight, with 30 mph winds. I'm numb long before they can calculate the wind-chill. Phui, I don't think I've quite thawed out from this morning's balmy 15 degrees - at that temperature I've parked at the office before the heater can disperse non-frozen air. I know Gandle remains good-natured at those temps, but I'm gonna be awfully grumpy as soon as my teeth stop ch-ch-ch-chattering.

I'd love to share the Pineapple Express with you, I saw how it is with all of you. At first I had the impression that everyone "back East" sure is obese, but then it dawned on me that this is caused by multiple layers of heavy clothing!
Supppose it's really hard to get around.

Multiple clothing layers plus multiple cups of hot chocolate do give the impression of obesity... after a long cold spell, it's more reality than impression which causes us to just get rounder and rounder.
