My mother will be celbrating her 89the birthday this yearm, but alas my father has long since been gone, and you are right about reading, both my mom and I are avid readers..guess that is why i find myself on here..I am also an avid gardener and putter/organizer...after all these years still not organized !

What a wonderful milestone to celebrate. My parents nearly made that one. In fact one of the last things my father was talking about right before he passed, was that soon it would be their 60th year of being a couple, since they were engaged a year before they married. That's how important it was to him.

Aggie, you are anything but ancient, lol. Before you let it slip your chronological age some time ago, I had assumed you might be about thirty years younger than you are. Your posts always lead to places where a person full of life might venture. That's why the internet is so cool. It removes sterotypical age from an ageless person.

Congratulations to you and your DH. Sixty years together is quite an accomplishment and when you add the blessings of family, that accomplishment is compounded. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations to you both, Aggie. Hope you've planned something special for yourselves in celebration. I'd say you definitely have bragging rights...and especially so for the kids and grandkids. No matter how much I believe kids must and do find their own way, still believe we have lots of influence and are ever so fortunate if it "takes".

Have been reading again my Barbara Pym and Penelope Fitzgerald books and adore the characters. Bet you'd enjoy the quirkiness too if you're not already familiar with these authors. (Another avid reader here and will soon be 40 years with this DH). josh

Well, thanks loads to everyone. It has been a nice day. Nothing special, slept late went out to lunch and generally just goofed around. We had thought about a party, but frankly, I didn't want to be bothered.

Advice to young couples? that's a big one. OK, here goes!

To the men: Don't expect your woman to act just like all of the other women that you have known, especially your sisters or your mother.

To the women: Don't expect your man to act just like all of the other men you have known, especially your brothers or your father.

To both: NEVER expect the other to know what you are thinking. Or why you are angry, disappointed, unhappy, depressed. If you can't open your stupid mouth and say so, or if he/she gets his/her feelings hurt when you do, find someone else or grow up.

Congratulations on your special day, you have every reason to be proud. And I share your love of reading.

Late, but sending sincere congratulations on a truly significant milestone. My parents made it to their 60th anniversary & I truly think it's what kept my dad going the last year of his life as he died 4 months later.

I'm just a piker in the marriage sweepstakes having just celebrated our 33rd. If we make it to our 60th, I'll be 88 & DH 89. I think it may be iffy that we'll make it.

Late too, but congratulations to both of you. Heading towards 50 years (both being long bachelors). It takes committment and you have to be good friends to last that long. You can divorce a husband/wife but not your best friend.

Aggie, Neil and I will never make it to our 60th.
He'd be 104 and I'd be 90. He'll be 83 tomorrow and I'm on the brink of 69. 39 years isn't a bad track record in this day and time. I'm grateful for it.

I think it's great that you've reached that milestone together. It says a lot about the kind of couple you are.
