Hot Topic #1: Concentration/Dilution

Driftless Roots

I just had a great weekend. Really, I did. In spite of, or perhaps because of the inclement weather I spent all of both days keeping very busy around the house. Between "necessary" stuff like laundry and cooking and the "fun" stuff like reading/planning/thinking/doing of my various hobbies and interests I managed to keep myself occupied from before sunup until well after dark. I really had a great time and could have kept it up for a week easily.

Fast forward to today. I'm at work and I'm dealing with exactly the same things I was dealing with last year at this time. Nothing is changed. Nothing.

So why do I spend all my free time entertaining myself and enjoying life when I could be working on changing or furthering my work life? Is that necessarily a bad thing? If I'd really found something to do for a living that fed my soul as well as my wallet would I still be so avid about my outside interests? What do you think? What's your life like in this respect?
