Name That Plant!

where can I find pictures of babies?

I am looking for a place where I can find pictures of what plants look like when they are first emerging. I am trying to make a little book for my school gardens so people will stop weeding out the babies. Does anyone have a great website or book? We are here in Minnesota and we only plant natives in these gardens if that helps.

find the latin names of the plants you are interested in ....

using such, followed by something like 'seedlings' ....

and then flip over to the IMAGES side ...

Katydids will slice buds cleanly, usually vertically. The nymphs (immatures) look like spindly green grasshoppers. They are hard to see. If you try to catch one, anticipate a leap forward and up. However, they don't hollow out. There's a kind of sawfly larva that will hollow out buds, but I don't recall the sliced look. Also I have some large black ants that do this-- not sure whether they initiate the damage, but I think they do. These buds are sliced horizontally and then hollowed. You could apply to the closed buds only an insecticide that is labelled for chewing insects (beetles and worms).

Hi Too, I happened to pop in on this Forum and saw your question. You can print any image you like from the computer. Just save the picture into your PFC, if you need to resize its generally easy to do with whatever program you have. I learned last year that if you use regular printer paper and NOT photo paper, you can decoupage stuff just fine. I did some things and no problem at all with it. See you on GJ ;o) hugs, Karen

One that comes to mind is Mohawk Carpets. www.mowhawkcarpet.com. They have an online designer called dream vision (or something) that works with carpet, laminate, wood, tile and another dream vision they have for vinyl. Where Can I Find Mirrored Picture Frames?

Google search didn't turn up anything at all. I just know who carries what type of decor. I am sure there are many I don't know about. I have four 16"x16" framed mirrors (in mirrored frames) in my breakfast area that I got from Home Goods and I could probably replace the inner mirror with a print. I dont' recall seeing a mirrored "frame" as large as 24" at Home Goods but they sell so fast I could easily have missed it. Bee could be right so do keep looking. Also check Two's Company website. Ken's got the right idea. Start with the Latin or common name of each plant and do a google image search. Carol's website looks helpful, too. Try there first to test it out.

Two big thumbs up for the suggestion to search with the Latin binomial. The quality of the info you find via those searches is so much better.

Also, be sure to label well here seed has been planted. Take pictures yourself of the items you know. And include pix of items that are clearly undesirable weeds. When things get really weedy or overgrown, sometimes clearing out the obvious "junk" is the best approach to make the desirables more noticeable - all of a sudden that row you planted becomes visible.
