Sometimes. Especially in warm weather. I prop up the pillows into a central throne, surround myself with snacks and books and the furry ones crawl in and surround me like loyal subjects, rofl. In fact, I sleep all over the house in all the beds, whichever one piques my fancy.

I think some of the reason people pick sides is of course habit, and they want to lay in a familiar place but some of it is how pillows are designed. They essentially split the bed into two sides, no?

Nope i never sleep in the middle when DH isnt here. I think its because its too darn hard to work my way over to the edge when i need to get out of the bed.

Even when DH isn't here, the dog & cats are. They seem to have dibs on the middle of the bed here. I can't tell you how often both DH & I have woken (is that a word?) up in the morning hanging off our respective sides of the bed with the dog sprawled out in the middle.

Suzy, yes, the pillows do divide the bed...but it's not hard to toss one away and luxuriate in the middle. I'm glad you do that! A splendid example of how to use a bed by oneself:)

I sleep in a twin bed at home because, like pamven, I don't like having to scoot across just to get up. OTOH, when not at home, I toss the extra pillow/s and think of it as luxury to go to sleep in the middle... but I always wake up on one side or the other, not in middle.

With DH's snoring and thrashing around,I spend many a night in the guest room. When I do,there is no way Rootie Kazootie would allow me to sleep in the middle of the bed...that's his spot and if I skootch over there,he just sits on top of me until I move.

When Steve is out of town (as he was last night) I just sleep with someone else. (You've known me long enough to have understood that "someone else" to be Izzy.) And I do sprawl out catty corner with my head on his side.

Steve doesn't allow the dogs on the bed (not that Jaz would consider it a privilege), but I have different rules, and Izzy is my willing accomplice. In the mornings when he leaves, I immediately sprawl out to cover the whole bed, and Izzy puts her chin on the bed and wags her tail until I invite her up to snuggle with the kitty and me. When he's out of town, the three of us retire together. Izzy sleeps next to me and occasionally rests her head on my tummy, and Kotie sleeps between my knees. When I sit up to pet them, they shower me and one another with gentle flea bites and sandpaper kisses. When Steve is in the house, Izzy pretends that she is never allowed on the bed (though I swear she sometimes winks at me as she retires to one of the dog beds in the master bedroom).

I have never been a big fan of rigid "side of the bed rules." In fact, in my first marriage, we had a small apt with the bed pushed up to the wall and whoever had to wake up first got the "out"side. I was totally baffled when Steve and I were in FL and there were two beds. I had made myself very comfortable in one of them, reading a book while Steve sat at the desk, catching up on a few e-mails. When it came time to join me, he looked concerned and told me we'd have to switch beds. I asked him why and he said he needed to be next to the alarm clock. I pointed out that I had allocated the side next to the alarm clock to him and he informed me that while I had, that wasn't "his side!" The alarm clock was on a nightstand between the two beds and he expected me to switch beds to perpetuate his rigid "side of the bed" constraints. I laughed at him and invited him to live dangerously with me while we were on vacation.

It's not as if our side of the bed choice was based on anything meaningful. I just picked the right side because it was closest to the bathroom in our house in GA. I didn't understand at the time that I'd be stuck with the right side (which is now far from the bathroom) for the rest of my life including vacations... except when I sleep in the middle!

If Himself isn't here, I tend to end up sleeping diagonally for some reason.

I like sleeping near the side, so that I can stick a foot out from under the duvet if I get warm.

I LOVE the middle of the bed, but never get the chance to hog it all to myself. Monday-Friday, I sleep on the edge so I can literally roll out of bed to go to work and I just keep sleeping in that space out of habit.

The middle of the bed belongs to Sooty and Taffy; the far side is Taschi's, she sleeps on the blanket, under the comforter.
I like to read before going to sleep, so my nightstand on one side, actually a small credenza, holds the lamp, a small container holding Advil and such, a glass of water, my clock, a pen-light, my hardwired land line phone and behind the door, my books. Of course, that's the side I need to be on; it's also closest to the bathroom.
I like it, because I don't have to try to get out by trying to crawl over all the critters.

I hadn't slept alone in 37 years when Ron isn't around to sleep with I sleep with Skeeter. She is a bed hog, snores and fart$ so I don't notice the diffrence.

What a coincidence! I was just thinking about this the other day.

DH is still in Denmark and I'm here. I've been sleeping on my 'own' side of the bed until just the other night when I woke up in the morning right in the middle. It felt good but kinda funny and I had to think a moment of two until I realized what was different. I was on my back in full sprawl -arms and legs starfished out. I haven't done that in years!

I always slept on my side of the bed even if my husband was away. After he died, I continued that pattern until I fell out of bed twice. Woke up on the floor with no memory of falling! However, since I have had two knee replacements, getting up is not easy. I would scoot around on my behind until I found something satisfactory to hold to while I got to my knees. This usually took awhile. Now, I have moved the bed against the wall so I can't fall on that side, and I scooch all the way over to the wall. Takes awhile to move across the kitties to get out of bed, but I feel much more secure.

The Orange Fuzzball and I alwasy retire before dh. He is under the covers in the middle of the bed until dh comes to bed and then he switches to the edge because dh doesn't like fur against him. I am just glad that when I would come home from college my mother never noticed that I slept on the edge of a twin bed.

I sleep alone fairly often...in my on little twin bed in another room. If DH is out of town, I don't like the big empty queen-size. But I've had a separate bedroom available since early in our marriage and just as important, a separate bathroom. I honestly think it's a big factor in our staying married since 1960. We had both lived singly in apartments for years (after earlier marriages ended in divorce), and it was hard to get used to sharing space/time. Plus I really need "alone" time..and I'm a nightowl while DH likes early bedtime.

If I want to spend the evening doing my nails and reading, I can avoid his tv habit (Seinfield reruns!). Plus I don't necessarily appreciate having an audience for eyebrow shaping nor do I want to see him clipping toenails. LOL

Works well for us. All my clothes, cosmetics, etc. are in "my" room, which makes it easier to dress and we don't have to fight over closet/drawer space. And in the bathrooms we each have adequate space and no fussing over hair in the sink or lid left up...LOL

It's nice to have one's own space available...I think even more so now that we're both retired...too much togetherness is NOT a good thing IMHO. josh

I LOVE sleeping in the middle of the bed. Sometimes I sleep there when DH is with me! LOL My little dog likes to sleep with me, but will try to jump off and that's really bad for his back. He can only sleep with me during a nap. Not all night. He sleeps on DH' side when he does snuggle on the bed.

We each have "our" side of the bed when at home, but invariably, when we're on vacation, we sleep on the opposite side. We call it "vacation side" of the bed. Silly.

The middle of the bed is for the cat.
We are fortunate that she permits us the edges of the king size bed... We rarely fall off.
